Top speeds in each gear?

Featured Replies

With the different custom re-maps and turbos out there tweaked to the owners wants and needs, I was interested to know what speeds you guys get in each gear when pushing your Fabias? Obviously taking out optimum gear changes to max the torque, just red line speeds? After a few months of owning not only my first diesel car, but a vRS, it still puts a smile on my face! I had a modified Clio Sport a few years ago which i drove hard, and could get past 60mph in 2nd....still getting used to the different power delivery but love owning a more "discreet" car than my previous rides!! Now I'm the grand old age of 32, I've turned the other way and never push my car now BORING :-)

Ratios don't change with remaps dude so everyone with the same box will get same speed at the top of each gear (redline excluded).

Time it takes to reach the top of each gear will obv change with different power outputs.

1st < 30

2nd just under 50

3rd just under 80

4th 110+

5th 130

6th just under 150

MPH tested on a recent drive on a de restriced section of autobahn of course.

??? ru saying a higher powered car reaches redline faster??!

We have the longer boxes. ;) 6th gear is geared for about 165mph at 4500 revs :D I'm sure 5th goes to more than 130 too. ;)

On the "normal" boxes, 3rd is about the same, but 4th redlines at more like 100mph, 5th @ 125mph and 6th @ 145mph.

you are about right there my "normal" box redlines at 98mph in 4th. i know this because thats what it says on my dyno sheet from two years ago. not sure about 5th and 6th tho.

Lol I remeber my old saxo VTS with full scorpion stainless and forced induction would do 75 in 2nd!! Yes i know it was a crisp packet on wheels :p.

So wouldn't every VTS do 75 in 2nd?

I thought the two boxes were the same apart from 6th, maybe not lol closer ratios a bit quicker going through the gears :D

Such exotica, I got a 1.2L standard Vauxhall Nova to do that.

I test drove a mk2 Saxo Vts and omg was gutless compared to my s reg Mrk1 VTS so no they wont all pull that, the mods gave it at least another 20bhp. I never had it flat out but it was still pulling strong at 135 (Airstip :p) very long gear ratios but dang it was scary at those speeds.

Would wheel / tyre sizes (diameter obviously) have an influence on this?

Yes, bigger circumference than standard will make your speedo read too low, while also giving you more speed (so with bigger tyres, your speedo would probably still say 100mph in 4th, but you might actually be doing 105 as each "turn" of the wheel will be giving you a bit more.

As I thought.

So are all the quoted figures above all for 205/45/16, or eqivalent diameter?

Mine is on 205/45/16 suspect J is running 205/40/17

Just checked tyres calculator, at 60mph the larger wheel & tyre make 0.5mph of a difference.
