Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Ive a 2004 vrs with 92k on the clock . cam belt was changed @ 53k.

when will it need doing again and what sort of £ should it cost to change .

cheers in advance for your help

What year was the last one changed? They need changing every 4 years or 60,000 miles so assuming it got changed in 2008 then it's due its 2nd one this year.

You need to change the waterpump and cambelt tensioner/damper at the same time.

Costs about £250-£300 from an independent VW garage or £350+ at a dealer to do the whole lot.

cheers it was done in 2008.

My local skoda quoted £320 for waterpump and cambelt

Or £400 inc service! Good i think

They are a compete b***h of a job to do aswell,

Alot of garages are struggling at the moment so there is some movement in dealer prices just so they can get work through there doors

£137 for the parts inc damper and waterpump, a mate of mine can do it at your house for £130 max, ( vw Techie

That is a conti belt kit, with the BRISK25 25% discount code from Eurocarparts, they are a sponsor on here

That's a hefty discount!

Does this apply to anything purchased from Eurocarparts?

Cheers, Terry

And to think I paid just shy of £1000 for a Clio 172 cambelt and service.

This makes me positively giddy.

FYI

It may worth changing the hydralic damper too at that age, if this pops so does your engine, it's not cheap (about £60) but neither is a new engine.

Buy a genuine belt kit with all the spare rollers as well, again if you don't change them you could be looking at disaster.

Hi Terry,

Yes - pretty much everything - excluding performance parts & clutches

That's actually a pretty decent price.

But alas I didn't see this so booked it into my local friendly indie who is exceedingly good for £296 all-in. :)

With the Conti timing belt kit (including pulleys, damper, the lot) and water pump as above from ECP, mine came to £267 fitted. That was at 8 years old, with 57k on the clock. As it happens, the stuff that came off was hardly worn at all, but there was no history of it ever being changed in the bills etc, so I decided to do it as a precaution.

That is with the Damper, post 6

It is too !!

I think it was upwards of 500 quid when I phoned D M Keith in Bradford!

Ended up getting it done by the garage that sold me the car.

I rang TPS for a price for a timing belt kit for my TDi and was told they are on offer at the moment and the kit comes to about £110 including the VAT.
