Driver Mirror not working

Featured Replies

The only problem with electrics in my car is the drivers mirror only working sometimes, but half the time it wont respond or work how it should.

Is it just a fauly motor do we think? or control switch? or both

Could be corroded wiring in the loom. Mine has started acting up too... adjusting the driver's side moves both mirrors... so i have to adjust "both" then readjust the passenger side independently.... not the worst, but still a pita..

That is by design believe it or not.

Honestly??

Mines does the same with the mirrors and though i was looking at loom problems?

That is by design. Switch is marked up as "L+R", "L", "Heat" in my 2001 Elegance.

I think the idea is it speeds up the process for when a different driver uses the car (taller/shorter/etc).

Switch is marked in mine L. R. And heat

Had loads of vag cars and never came across this (vrs)

seriously... both move together by design... that is F*&%ing ridiculous... how does it speed anything up?

Also, does the heat come on when its in the middle, or do you have to push something else too..

only have the car since january and never noticed the heat markings at all.

Anyway, Gtiracer has a bigger problem... so lets help him out :-)

I say corrosion at the motor end causing an intermittent short. any other theories?

You need to have the demister switched on too.

Think about it, if you were a few inches taller than the previous driver of the car you would have to tip up both mirrors, so this enables you to do both in one go.

I am going to plump for either water ingress (seems to cause random issues), or a broken wire between the door and the A pillar.

Are you sure? Maybe someone has replaced the switch, as they seem to break quite often (physically -people breaking off the control knob)

Sure

Sure

Well I can't argue with that picture! I wonder if your switch has been replaced...

I just went and took it actually as i was unsure but my drivers side operates passenger too! Never had this before

My golf mk4 didnt do it

Both mk1 fabia vrs's didnt do it

My lupo gti didnt do it

:o

Nah mine is the same too, just L demist and R. Must be confusing for new owners.

mine is like your's jase - it is how they came standard

Mine was the same. Did confuse me for a bit. But generally you don't adjust your mirrors sideways very often so you just need to move them both up and down when someone of a different height uses the car.

I used to keep mine on the L setting all the time as I didn't want the heaters working when they didn't have to (paranoid they were going to break!)

You can adjust element heating time through vagcom

Its set infinately from the factory but i set mine at 15mins

got a "howto"?

Ithink many members including myself would like to know how to do this

When i say i, i mean a lad on here called mike did it, he goes to a lot of the scottish meets

Theres a few things you can change through vagcom / vcds and mirror element time is one of them :)

Unfortunately its all smoke and mirrors to me

I'd like to be able to do it as well. I assume its a small change to the convenience module code, the same way you would do to enable deadlocks etc

Yes the lad that did mine did

Deadlocks

Beeps on locking

Time delay for window wash swipe

4 indicator clicks on convenience indicators

And heated mirror time

But its beyond me!
