While doing the home coming lights, kit supplied by korban (Karl) - Thanks!:

Thought I'd have a go at the interior mood lighting:

Ran wire with pin 17 and 10 on the light switch while installing home coming lights. Normal LED's require diffusing, so I may take it out and sand it flat or just put some defused material between the panels. Might just do the latter as its adjustable.

Side note - Undecided on brows.. yes/no? Its not on atm but cant decided if it looks nice..

Question: Does anyone know how to switch the buzzer sound off while lights are on and the door is open? I'll have a search in the mean time...

Dont think the buzzer can be silenced with the light kit as mine does exactly the same. Like the light leds youve done though, but how bringht are they? I used a w8 light and sprayed it up and im really happy with the throw of light in the dark

I also actually like the brows as it give a little more aggression to the front end look.

I have the same kit for the coming home lights. The buzzer can't be disabled easily, but you can stick some insulation over it to mostly silence it. Hopefully Karl will confirm soon...

LEDs are actually little too bright, hopefully once I scatter the beam it'll be better.

I was hoping the buzzer can be disabled through vagcom :p oh well.. is the buzzer in an easy location? Could always ground it I suppose..

The buzzer is soldered to the back of the dash cluster I think.

Looking good John, didn't think of modding the original Light fitting.

As mattievrs and vRS Joe have said as far as I know the buzzer can't be disabled and it also is used for the indicator beep and ice warning. What I have done is covered it with some foam (it is on the rear of the instrument cluster) which mutes it a bit so makes it less annoying.

If the LEDs are too bright you can indeed diffuse them by sanding the LEDs to give them a mat appearance.

I did that plus also resorted to sticking some tinted film over them to cut the light output even more.

Picture with the LEDs on and no tinted film

Picture with tinted film on one off the other

Finally LEDs off with one covered the other not

I always leave the tinted film on as without it they are too bright at night and are a little bit distracting

Yeah, thought I might aswell since I was at the light switch area, did you guys need to run the wire up for the W8 module?

As for the brightness, I'll probably run another resistor inline of the circuit to make it dimmer... :p

Yes needed to run an extra wire from the sidelights

I ran the wire from the dimmer input to the w8 light module so it an be dimmed down with the dash if needed

hi guys, sorry to hijack the thread, but how do you do the interior lighting mod? i've driven a few golfs that had it and its something i just really like. is it easy to do? if it is, could you give me a few pointers to costing and what parts i would need?

thanks very much in advance,

Iain.

oh those eyebrows are awwwefulll , I think you should sell them...... to me :) haha (I really like them). where did you get them from?

Haha, thanks. I got it off here, there are a few examples on ebay, though the style maybe a little different.. I keep buying odd parts which haven't been put onto the car, think im a bit of a hoarder when it comes to parts. Also have a milotec grill sitting (for ages!) after redoing the grill, a set of gauges plus din for it and a few other things.. I will do a clear out soon...... :p

2 LEDs, I bought a pack of 5 with resistors (search 12v *colour* led on ebay). I also bought LED holders (2)

Remove light module -

2 gold screws,

4 lever point? to be undone using a flat-head screwdriver

unclip power,

Find a good spot to drill a 5mm hole through both black and grey plastic plate. mount the LEDs (glue?).

Find a wire which comes live when sidelights come on. e.g. light cluster, ciggy lighter (iirc) or the dimmer switch as mentioned above (good idea!).

Run +ve and -ve round A pillar and through the roof lining to the light module.

Connect everything up and adjust light as suggested in previous posts.

OR if you dont want to do the drilling and mounting led, buy a W8 light module which comes from other cars, ebay? but wires still need to come from sidelights.
