Skoda Paintwork warranty

Featured Replies

Just after some advice and information off some people. Been giving the vRS a good old polish/wax this evening and I've started to notice a couple of bubble's appearing just underneath the rear numberplate lights and slightly around the edge of the numberplate at the top.

I'm talking ever so slightly here but I'm anal about my paintwork hence why it's bugging me, but I believe that Skoda offer a 10(?) year warranty on corrosion?Would Skoda be likely to reject for putting it right due to being so small? I've counted about 5-6 spots around the size of a pin head forming so far but I'd imagine more will come sometime soon.

Mines the same. But i think if the car has had any paintwork from a non skoda dealer the warranty is invalid. And they do check with a paint depth meter.

Same here. I probed and later touched up the spots. It didn't seem like the area was perforated from inside the tailgate.

IMHO I think the paint in that area is rather thin and I wouldn't be surprised if water is breaching the paint from the outside. The bubbling seems to be the zinc/galvanization treatment doing it's job.

I found the similar type of corrosion/reaction under the spare wheel panel. This time the panel wasn't even painted or undersealed!

Best of luck at the dealers.

The car as far as im aware and everything I've checked has never been painted. The bubbles haven't broke through the surface yet but you can see and feel them. I'm going to speak to my local dealer today and what they suggest/offer.

I spoke to a chap at my local Skoda dealership today (Simpson's in Colne), explained to him about what I've found and he took my details and told me to come and they will take pic's etc of it and go from there.

He explained to me that they WONT sort it out, even if it seems a flaw has caused it, if it has been left to long and allowed the rust to take hold.

I work at a Skoda dealership, more importantly their bodyshop as a paint sprayer and we do rusty tailgate warranty jobs all the time, even if its the slightest bit of rust coming through, normally around the numberplate like yours. We would take a photo and send it off to Skoda and then they'll either approve it or not, then they pay for us to do it. Warranty against rust is 12 years. So this Skoda dealership you went to should sort it out for you.

I'm hoping so, tbf, if you took a glance at it you would think I'm being a bit stupid as they are so small and only a couple of spot's but I know from owning a classic Mini that rust can soon take hold and cause all sorts of issues so would like it sorted sooner rather than later.

Mine is going in the same place :wonder: Think its gone too far for them to repair now though, might have to get it done myself.
