Skoda Service Rang Me Today

Featured Replies

Got a call around 10 minutes ago from Skoda Service Ireland.

I had queried about this coilpack issue. Apparently in Ireland the sales of vRS's are so low that they are seeing very little fallout on coilpacks, but are still monitoring the situation. I was advised if I get a sudden drop in engine power to not drive my car, but to call Skoda Assistance and have the car towed. No chance of them taking a preventative measure and replacing the coilpacks then.

Anyway, I've had my RS 11 months now, and only done 6k miles with no problems so far. However, I am longing for more power, and it seems the Upsolute remap which I can get done in Dublin is the best bang for the buck. Now I've read loads in the performance forum about this chip causing oveboost issues and unsmooth power delviery but the engineering company who offer this service in Ireland, guarantee the same style of power delivery as the original ecu and a constant boost pressure of 1.0bar. Sounds good to me.

One question though - could a remap of my ecu cause a coilpack failure ? The reason I ask is because Skoda Ireland invalidate your warranty on an tuning done to the engine. Was told this today.

thx

Flanno , a remap will not cause coilpack failure , but if you do have a coilpack fail you just don't tell them about the remap - mums the word :D

Glad to know it.

So it looks like I will be getting the remap in the next few weeks.

i cannot devulge that sort of info and i wouldn't mind being one of the corrs :D

Flanno,

Did you look into a place called Westward Engineering in Enfield, a guy called Martin Tracey runs it and is supposed to be very good when it comes to remapping. I seen he sponsored some vouchers on the VAGE.ie site, so maybe you might see him at one of there events, I hear he has a tuned Golf GT TDi.

Got an email from they today. They will do a revo remap for 500stg, which is approx. 640 euro.

They I can get up to 210bhp and 240lbs torque. More if better Intercooling is used.

So here are my choices :

LogicAutomative : Upsolute chip giving 212bhp, 218lbs torque for 450 Euro

Westward : Revo chip giving 210bhp (212bhp advertised on web) and 240lbs torque for 640 Euro

It would seem the Upsolute is only slighly behind for a 200 euro saving.

Then again the Revo I believe can be done in 10 minutes via the serial port, and there is the option of add on programs, but as we don't have 98 Octane where I live, then these are probably a waste of money.
