supercharged 1.3 felly?

Featured Replies

I know this has been talked about before but has anyone ever put a supercharger on a 1.3? No reason why it wouldnt work? I guess the engine would need remapping to suit the supercharger? I'm just thinking of a future long term project and wondered if anyone has any pointers in the right direction?

lots of reasons why it wouldn't work, first one being where would it fit as there is no room for an extra belt between the chassis and the engine, then you have the extra load on headgasket and cooling system and all sorts of things like the 3 bearing crank wouldn't last long with producing lots of low down torque.

expensive to sort fully I would imagine too

^ Think the message probably is don't go there!

Turbo charging would be easier but still certainly not easy!

Your best bet would probably be an engine swap. 1.4 16v or 1.8T. But these are by no means a straight swap!

Felicia 1.3 was designed as a cheap, yet reliable, economic, middle size family car.

instead of trying to kill quickly a decent engine, I recommend swapping with a Fabia one.

that is, if you have enough money, passion and time.

which is 100cc more but yet no more bhp than the 1.3 engine..

upside tho if you wanted to turbo a 1.3 motor the fabia exhaust manifold is perfect for it as it has one outlet and a square flange ready made to stick a turbo on lol.

were you curious enough to see what the engine in the attached photo performance are?

NO. so you decided to BS and act (according to your avatar) like a monkey . twice.

I'm sick and tired to see there is always, on each forum, a joker that mocks everybody...

was your comment helpful for the topic initiator? NO.

we're talking about tuned engines.

so if you start from a 1.3 Felicia engine, you end up with a blown head.

but if you start with a Fabia engine, be it 1.4, you can make a little sports car.

my solution is quite reasonable in terms of compatibility, money and other resources.

otherwise you can stick a Suzuki Hayabusa turbo under the bonnet and take off (V1, V rotate, gear up)

Calm down...

I think Jim's right for the most part - the 1.4 still has a 3-bearing crank (although the block is sturdier with the bearing ladder and newer design). Head gasket and indeed the head itself is identical on the 1.4 as the late 1.3 engines. There's plenty of tuning potential in both, but as far as adding a supercharger is concerned, I'd say it was a no-no because of packaging limitations, and because of the bottom end. There isn't any room for an extra pulley on the bottom end as the chassis is in the way. I've changed main bearings a LOT on rally engines (as has Jim), so I think that's the weak spot - the other issues such as cooling could be sorted, but it'd be way expensive to do it, when there are other better solutions about.

Hence why I suggested a 1.4 16v perhaps as a better starting point. Get the 100bhp one and that may be enough as it is.

Teflontom has has done it on his pickup. He is no underway with a 1.8T conversion too... which would go like stink!

Errr yea I saw that it was a fabia 1.4 mpi engine which has exactly the same head and gasket as the 1.3 so the same weakness,so I'm not really sure where you are aiming from there. also has longer stroke so less able to rev and hydraulic tappits which are absolutly useless anything over 6000 rpms,

next :punch:

anyway who was comparing tuned engines? the easiest 100 bhp you will get in a felly is the vw 1.4 16v as it bolts to the gearbox and only needs 1 mount sorting (which took me 45 mins)

but as for a supercharger (back on topic yea????) I thought I answered that question before.

its not like I've worked for a Skoda dealer and specialist for 20 years or anything.
