Newbie Question About Tuning

Featured Replies

Quick question(s)....

Having had my Octavia Rs for 6 days now, am seriously thinking about chipping the car, however being a newbie to all this I have some questions..

I appreciate the fact that if the dealer found out that the warranty would not be worth the money it is written on, but..

1) will they use that fact that is has been modded in the engine dept to gripe about forking out warranty repairs for the rest of the car

2) if it is just a software re-map would they ever find out?

I have been looking at;

http://www.auto-amd.com/octavia.asp

who claim to have the ability to re-program back to the original 180 setting (chipped to about 210ish) via the CC stalk, thinking this may be the way round it?.

Has anyone had any encounters with them?

Cheers

P!

Hi and Welcome!

1) this is dependent on your dealer; some Briskodians have found their dealers to be "mod friendly" others not. II'm sure the others will tell you who to "trust".

2)there are ways to determine whether the remap has been done. The easiest way is of course the extra performance. With remaps the original E2/FLASH device where the program is stored on is replaced so the ECU seal will be broken. Can also interrogate the code via the OBDM(?? serial port??) port.

I didn't know AmD provided a program switch. APR and REVO are the ones that normally do this via CC or custom switcher respectively. JabbaSport, which most people have gone with, do a variable boost switch which allows you to adjust the boost level from standard upto the remapped level. The adjuster is also removeable.

If you've not any experience of "modding" you can do no better than get the recommendations from others. The majority of people here have gone with Jabba (mines being done tomorrow:D ). I have experience of AmD when they were still based over at Oddington. They were much smaller then and more friendly to now. Also Geoff had a different business parnter then (Mike). They know their stuff but they are expensive.

Do a search on the pefromance forum and you'll find lots of stuff on tuning and tuners.

Cheers.

Adrian.

p.s forgot to say Jabba generally tend to get 220+bhp for their remaps.
