Misfires when cold

Featured Replies

I've been in contact with a APR local dealer here in Sweden regarding tuning my RS, and was told something very interesting. I do recall hearing/reading a lot about misfires and getting new sparks to mend them, thus me writing about it now.

Apparently APR has had some issues with tuned vehicles in i.e. Germany where the car misfires and revs about nothing. They have narrowed it down to being temperature related, about when being 10C or lower. The engine required more fuel to be pushed in to keep it steady going. APR is researching more about and will have a remedy out soon, hopefully.

I'm might be wrong but I drawing a logical conclusion to the talk about misfires and so on during previous winter. Maybe vRSy could shed some more light?

I hope it really was not news to them that a cold engine or cold ambient temperature might require more fuel.

People were pulling the Choke out for decades to reduce the air in and increase the fuel in untill things were up to running temp.

(Making the mixture richer)

From when i was a youngster untill the 80's we were turning the air filter intake on vehicles from facing to the front of the grill in summer to drawing warmer air from the rear or side above manifold for winter time..

Infact the cars built in a previous era and being driven still, will still have a Airfilter housing to turn to suit the season and a manual choke for starting a cold engine.

We then got Auto Chokes, then ECU's & then came people re-mapping ECU's.

(ECU's that have memories and self resets and up-dates)

They 'remappers/tuners' really should know about Sensors & fuel and temperatures and basics.

Are these people Trained Mechanical Engineers or Electrical Technicians that have failed to study the internal combustion engine and its principals?
