Thought my lottery had come up when I saw the Sri arrive. After all the SRi is the Gti of the vauxhall marque - NOT any longer it aint. further investigation of the paperwork notes that its a 1.4t.

still, looks well kitted out an is a wee step up from the usual Kia Cee'd!

SRi = Sport

VXR = GTI

Thought it was a 1.6 turbo?

My mates got one with a vxr turbo fitted to it and its pushing 185hp.........i still left it for dust though :D

Vauxhall do have the most bizarre model range ever though... You've got (from memory):

Active

Comfort

Breeze

Design

SXi

SRi

VXR

A 1.4 or a 1.4t.

The latter probably isn't too bad.

It's a 1.4T 16v with 140bhp I believe. It replaced the 1.8 engine.

Ahh learn something new everyday :) guessing that was the old 1.8 out the higher sri not the 1.4sri

I'm talking 20+ years ago when the SRI was the "hot hatch" version of the cavalier and astra - on par with Golf GTi, Escort XR3 etc. VXR is a fairly recent "invention" and as you rightly point out SRi is now just the "sport" trim.

True, SRi used to be the top end, but not for ages!

'twas a 1.4T - 6th gear totally useless on the 280 mile of country I cover today in The Borders and Dumfries and Galloway. Add to drop to 4th a lot of the time to stop it running out of puff. That sai I am used to diesel torque where you just stick it in top gear and point the car!!!.

What about the GTE?

What about the GTE?

I think the GTE was originally the Opel version of SRi -(I certainly remember the Kaddett GTE and Manta GTE in the late 70's/early 80's), but then became the "hot hatch" Astra before the introduce of the VXR models

The only good ranges in vauxhall's "sports" fleet was the cav GSi, calibra DTM and astra GTE, all from the 80/90's :p. C20LET power!

20years ago the Cavalier SRi was the Vauxhall family car flagship with an amazing 115hp.

Then the jaw dropping higher powered SRi 130 was launched. OMG did it fly. No.

Friend of mine is a Vauxhall man through and through - he used to a run a Cavalier GSi2000, not sure on the power but it was obviously 2.0 litre and must have sat above the 130 SRi, perhaps 150 bhp then??

After that died, he ran a Vectra SRi and has continued with his Vauxhall obsession by transferring his aligence to SAAB, driving a 93 Aero

SRi

Then

GTE or GSi Depending on age, VXR replaced this and Turbo spec.

then

Turbo, if you had a Calibra or Cavalier

then

Lotus, if you had a Carlton :)

Manta GTE in the late 70's/early 80's), I'm showing my age now I wanted one but never got there.

My dad had a gold Manta Berlinetta in the eighties after a few Capri's.

Had one, GTE Coupe Exclusive. THE best car I've had, why why oh why did I p/x it??? :wall:

I used to have a black Nova SRi, man that was a fun car!

Vauxhall came second to last in the 2012 JD Power survey followed by its sister company Chevrolet - nice one GM

Father in Law had one of these - brilliant motor.

Our local Opel dealer, and mate of mine at the time was none other than John Cleland who went on to drive for Vauxhall in the BTCC. His dad, Bill was the Boss of D.O.T. (Dealer Opel Team) and later DTV (Dealer team Vauxhall).

The other Opel classic was the the Kadett GTE - a real rival to the RS2000, Chevette HS, Golf GTi and other classic Hot hatches (some were salons admittedly!) of that era.

Must admit I nearly chopped the octy in for a cav gsi turbo love to own one.
