Octavia 1.9TDi Loss of power

Featured Replies

Hi to you all!

I have finally joined the Skoda community after many years as a Ford man!

Recently I bought an Octavia 1.9TDi Elegance PD 130 BHP. Full service history, well looked after. Took it for a test drive and put it through its paces on A & B roads. Lush! After buying it and taking to the motorway the very next day, I decided to try it out whilst doing 80mph (I don't condone breaking the law!) in 6th gear and booted it! It pulled away and then I felt a lag! A bit like driving a non-turbo car. Stopped at the Supermarket, restarted and turbo was responsive again. Thought I'd try the same thing going home, so booted it and this time in 6th, lost power and the ECU light came on!

Although it is responsive throughout the driving range, if I decide to accelerate in 6th whilst doing around 80mph, odds on it will lose power and the ECU will come on. Stop, restart and we're back! Drive for a while and the ECU light will go out.

Its got me foxed, as there is no hesitation or problems in the lower gear/speed range. In fact if I gradually increase the speed to 100mph (bad man!) no problem! It is just on that boost!

Any ideas?

Hi and welcome aboard.

Welcome.

Get someone to stick it on vag-com/vcds and see what faults are there, seeing as your light is coming on.

Welcome to the forum.

50p says veins are sticking on the VNT mechanism.

Cheers Guys!

Thanks for the advice. I bought an Autel Maxscan hand held diagnostic, which arrived today. It's telling me I have 1 DTC, PO234 - OverBoost. So I'm guessing, carbon build up in the turbo causing sticking vanes! Since I put some REDEX in the tank, it does seem to be less frequent and at higher rpm in 6th that the problem occurs!

did you get this fixed? I have the same problem

You would hope so in near 5 years.

Looks like a long time now since he signed into the forum.
