how did you cope?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone just wondering how everyone's cars coped in the hot sun we've been having. My Octavia TDI PD has been doing fine just now and then the temp gauge would creep over normal but just slightly, just on the topic how frequently does the coolant have to be changed as my car is 4 years old and the coolant has never been changed.

90 degrees and stays there, all year round!

what engine?

dunno.. mines been locked away the last 2 weeks in bits! the last hot spell we had it never went above 90 tho. they should`t tbh. mines the same as babs, vRS.

EDIT: my Bora TDI never went above 90 either

1.8T vRS!

Only engine that's ever over heated on me was my old Focus's TDDI, but that was my own fault - didn't bleed it properly after a thermostat change :giggle:

when it said over 90 i mean just. not way over not that noticeable if you just glanced at it you probably wouldn't notice but since it was warm outside i had a good look at the gauges and saw that it was creeping over just siting on the end of the zero on 90 like the next small line on the gauge readout and plus i'm a taxi driver so the engine is running allot during the day that's the first iv'e know it to go over 90 but its due a service the last one was 15000 miles ago.

My TDi is the exact same, a slight bawhair over the 90 mark all the time. Never bothered me, I guess it's normal

Mine stays at 90 highest reading on torque was 97 but 90 on the gauge

Sent from my GT-I9100. Not a Crapple!

IIRC, the range 84 to 99 will display as the normal '90' position

mine has never done it before but its due a service and the car has done 120000 miles so not to bad. and i'm not a fast driver at all i don't push the car along the road really hard half throttle and that's it cause the 1.9 TDI PD has tones of power whenever i put my foot to the floor to overtake someone on the motorway or on a back road it has all the power and then some tonnes and tonnes of power in that engine but has i say i'l get it serviced soon and get that rear quarter panel and bumper fixed

Have you ever had the water-pump replaced?

My 1.9TDi is stuck to 90 the whole time. though i have noticed my MPG is a bit higher on my normal commute to work.

Comp usually says avg around 65mpg on me 25mile (each way) drive to and from work.

same route, same kinda traffic, and today/yesterday its been about 70 to 72....

I do remember someone on here saying they run more efficiently in hotter weather, and perform better in cold. thats being proven at the moment!

I had the timing belt and tensioner replaced 40000 miles ago but i havent had a new water pump the car has done 120000 miles

It's probably worth changing it with the next cambelt.

If the temperature goes much past the '90' mark, then check the radiator fans are coming on. If you have a/c, then turn it on and both fans should be running.

if you have G12 coolant (pink) then it is life of the car

The fans have 2 stages - a quiet slow speed and a loud high speed. If you put the a/c on they should run at slow speed. If the 1st stage isn't working, the gauge will go a bit high and then stage 2 will cut. There is a separate fuse on top of the battery for the stage 1 fans.
