Dmf bodge lool !

Featured Replies

Ok so im sat here looking at a helix smf conversion .at the moment i have an "uprated" sachs dmf which is in perfect working order . When it fails and the clutch starts to slip would it be possible to weld a dmf locked almost to make a smf if that makes sence ... By the way i will NOT be doing this anytime soon , unless someone else does and it works haha !! Anyway what are your thoughts on this . Im expecting lots of lols !!

Have you felt the weight of a dmf flywheel compaired to a single mass one,

I doubt you will be able to buy a clutch with springs in plate to take the harshness off the gear change for a dmf,

If you welded up dmf then stuck a new standard clutch on it, it would just destroy it and it would be like driving a race car on drive take up

/ bodgeable haha as their veerery expensive

Would you really be willing to take the risk? Sounds like a lot of bodging with plenty of risk to your gearbox just to save a few quid.

Replace a DMF, or replace with a SMF - but to try some sort of halfway-house and risk ruining your 'box just doesn't sound worth it to me. You'll only end up spending more down the line I would have thought.

Just my tuppence-worth on the matter anyways.

I did say i wouldnt be doing it myself but i wanted to know what the risks were if someone else done it ..

The pickup would be so harsh that you risk ruining the clutch quickly - and also risk stripping the teeth from the gears.

Good luck on maintaining the flywheel balance if you weld it. You risk running the rear main bearing on the crankshaft, and/or wrecking the bottom end of the engine.

The mechanic I spoke to about it did mention it wasn't the first time he had done it, as for balancing I did ask that question but it's already ore balanced as you would expect so he uses a mig on the bolts to ensure it remains lined and balanced. He has done this to his Toledo with no issues, the biting point is sharper like that of a smf but still easy to drive.
