Turbo replacement required- help!

Featured Replies

I imagine I will get flamed for not using the search function, but I have and have been looking for ages and not found what I need or stuff so old it may not be relevant any longer.

Last week I posted that my turbo and possibly engone had blown. Luckily it is just the turbo.

I am now on the hunt for a turbo. I have decided that a new turbo is probably the route to take as apposed to buying a used one or I could be in the same situation a few months down the line.

I want to stick to a standard turbo as apposed to anything uprated or hybrid as I'm not planning on running the map on the car after this experience. Or will a fresh turbo and stage 1 Revo remap be ok?

I have an ASZ engine code on my car (05 plate) but as the car is not with me and the mechanic is out and about today I don't know the part number for the turbo.

Does anybody have any help or suggestions of where to contact for reasonable prices for a new turbo. And which turbo would be suitable for the application

Thanks in advance

My gosh this is hard work. Everybody wants to call me back and nobody does!

I have found out from Skoda that it is a KKK turbo fitted currently. Turbo Dynamics are saying only a KKK can be fitted whereas Turbo Technics gave me the option of a Garrett as well as a KKK.

Confusing!

Mine came from turbo dynamics it's a garret item, you can't go wrong with a name like that! I will dig out the paperwork later and see if I can find the part number for you :)

If you could that would be appreciated. The guy I spoke to at Turbo Technics said that the KKK turbos aren't that bad, not quite as good as Garrett but they are a more expensive.

The guy I spoke to at TD was a bit useless and said they didn't even do a hybrid turbo for a VRS.

I think I may got with TT on an exchange turbo and be done with it and get the car back on the road!

Garrett supposedly has stronger internals over the KKK as standard. KKK you will find on the PD130 engine, whereas the PD150 was a Garrett unit.

If there's not much money between two, you might want to consider a PD150 Garrett?

Garret also do a pd 130 turbo :)

I am just about to order the KKK, £348 + VAT on an exchange basis, whereas the Garrett is 621 + VAT, quite a considerable difference. the original lasted 70K, 50+ with a remap so if it lasts another 70k id be happy!

I've just bought a KKK one from Turbo Dynamics, £430 + VAT, replacing the original which went to 145k miles.

I was quoted £509.13 + VAT at turbo Dynamics this morning for a new KKK. I must have pulled the short straw with who I spoke to!

Too late, its ordered now anyway, should be here tomorrow.

Its typical isn't it, I could have paid a few quid extra for a brand new one. Or a bit less like I have and have a remanufactured one on an exchange basis. Why couldn't the guy this morning have told me the correct prices!

Is there any point cancelling the order and getting the brand new one?

If you are only on 70k, I'd get a new one.

I considered getting a cheaper remanufactured one, consider I only need it to last another 50/60k or so.

With a turbo always go for new, would you buy part worn tyres at 40 quid a corner or pay 70 quid a corner for brand new units? The warranty will be better plus there's more peace of mind, I also need to get my thumb out my a$$ about finding this part number for anyone's interest. Finish at 12 today so will try and remember today :3

The one that I am running is the garret item no 720855-5006s. The price for it on the net ATM is cheap as chips as when the previous owner had to replace the item in oct 2009 he was rinsed 677.57, the current price for the unit is 558.26. It's lasted 60k no issues :3
