What parts do I need to fit a new headunit?

Featured Replies

I've just ordered a cheap headunit from Halfords. Its a single DIN unit, with ISO connector, DIN mounting kit.

What other adapters and connectors do I need?

Fascia plate? - what are the best ones recommended to fit in nicely, same colour as the dash.

Aerial?

Main connector?

Anything else?

Thanks

Just the facia plate & removal keys, everything else should be included.

Get the autoleads fascia plate, cheaper than halfords one.

I fitted my new HU last night took a bit of doing with the wires, make sure it stores channels with the wires plugged in before you fit it! Had to reverse my red and yellow for it to store.

Face plate - Buy it from the dealer it'll match/fit better and the price is basically the same as the 3rd party versions.

Booster/adapter - ebay/amazon will set you back £2-3 delivered. You may get away without the booster but you'll loose reception more frequently leading to auto seek kicking in which is annoying.

Keys - either use some .5mm plastic/aluminium to do the job (old store card) or buy a set of Kenwood keys, don't buy 3rd party Skoda ones they don't fit/work.

You'll need to swap the switched/perm 12v live over but the HU should have bullet connectors for that or a fuse to move, either way RTFM. Other than that it's just scuffed knuckles, don't buy the ISO adapter all it does is switch the 12v for you and it's not worth it as your HU will have the same ability or you can do it yourself with a bullet connector on the red/yellow wires (RTFM first, some are different).

I`d with the above regarding the facia, forgot to put use a skoda one, matches the dash colour better and fits better. I never used a signal booster nor had any issues with radio reception even in poor areas.
