Bad reception on my radio

Featured Replies

Hi guys when i listen to my radio i seem to always have bad reception does anyone else have this problem and i have a standard stereo :(

A new aerial base will cure that!

There's a PCB in the base which will be water damaged, Leading to a loss of reception!

Sorry mate i dont understand what a pcb is lol where do i find this and where do i buy a replacement :)

The base of the aerial has a booster, and these can fail due to water ingress. The easiest solution is to purchase an inline booster and place this between the aerial lead at the back of the stereo and the stereo. They only cost a few quid and will make all the difference.

Yes same as above i need to change this how do you replace it do you have to take roof linning off ?

You have to lower the roof lining, changing the base will make no difference with an aftermarket stereo since it does not use (and cannot use) the amplifier in the base of the aerial;

another one here with the same issue, think i'll get the "New VAG Aerial Booster Amplified Antenna Lead VW Cars" off flea bay there about a fiver, I don't fancy ripping the roof lining out.

you don't have to take it out completely, just enough to access the 22mm securing nut

Sorry guys im

So lost what should i do to try and get radio reception

Replace the aerial. You can buy a whole unit from VAG for about £27.

Easy job, lots of guides on this site. Roof lining is no big issue, or if you're not up to it, expect to be charged no more than about 1/2 - 1 hours labour, I think I did mine in about 40 mins without having done it before.

Or as stated, you can place an in-line booster thing in behind the stereo. This should also fix the issue, but may end up being more faff - depends on your skills etc.

this should be the part number for the above 1U0035505F
