Fabia VRS Start Up

Featured Replies

Just bought a new VRS and I'm new to diesel. When it has been sitting in the drive for a few hours and you turn the ignition key (not start the engine) there is a strange 'squirting' sound a bit like an injection of fluid. Anyone know what it is and is it normal.

Both tdis i have had do this, so i suppose its quite normal.

Maybe the fuel sysem priming itself.

Welcome btw :D

:iagree: And welcome from me too. :D I think its putting fuel into the injectors ready for an easy smooth (well "smooth" ;)) starting up. :)

You'll probably also hear various electrical/pump noise when switching off too, for a couple of seconds. This "might" be the reverse of this, but unsure to be honest.

It doesn't sound right does it!!

My last car (petrol) used to prime the fuel pump and it sounded really cool, but on the vRS it sounds like something dying!

Still, got 48mpg on the way to work this morning (driving like my grandma).

Mine does it, I think they all do. It seems to get worse as the fuel level gets lower

I would imagine it's the fuel system pressurising. Both ours do it too.

Mine too, like squirt of fuel goin somewhere (technical term)...

Yep Mine does it too.

As it appear to be common , will worry when it doesn't do it :)

Don't forget to wait until the orange coil light goes out.

I've never seen it stay on long enough to notice it

The reason you can hear it so well is because it's underneath you :D

There is a cover underneath the car, roughly underneath the driver's seat (under the body ;) ) so that's why you can hear it pretty well compared to say the Rover which has the fuel pump at the back of the car. You can still hear it in that though, just not as loud..

A mechanic friend tells me you don't have to do this unless you're in artic conditions ;) I've certainly never had any problems starting it straight away.......

Octy's (at least petrol ones anyway) prime them selves when you actually open drivers door first time after unlocking.... sounds real cool.... my dad's ones have all done it.

I never wait for the glow plugs - no need in a modern diesel unless it's really cold - how do our Furbys go on in winter??

I've never had a problem firing mine, even in seriously cold conditions... :)

Ever had to wait for the glow plugs? I just start mine like a petrol!

I've always waited for the light to extinguish, which is almost immediately anyhow - unless it's really cold. I suppose I've always done it that way because my last car (Focus TDCi) wouldn't start until the light went out...

It used to be the case that the engine glowplugs came on when you opened the driver's door, so by the time you got the key in the steering column and turned it, the pre-heating was done. I assume the newer diesels are the same.

I've never tried getting in from the passenger's side to test this, though.

My old Polo used to do that too
