MDI in Armrest? Parts diagram please?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know whether the Octavia ever had the centre console 'Jumbo box' that would take an MDI in it's 'cage'?

Or was it just Golf's and the Octavia had it in the glovebox?

If it's just a Golf as I suspect, is the Golf console compatible with an Octavia Vrs Armrest?

Reason for asking is that I might be able to get an armrest from a breakers tomorrow afternoon. They have sent me this picture so far:

Does anyone have an 'exploded diagram' (from EKTA) of the Octavia armrest that shows the various options available for a pre-FL Octavia?

It's OK, I've found it on a Russian site.

Doesn't show that a 'media' version of the console was available...

Will a Golf console fit an Octavia (pre-FL) so that I can put the MDI in the centre console?

The back end where the armest is looks almost identical to the Octavia one, but I'd want to see a pic of the front where it surrounds the gear lever and joins the dashboard under the stereo, as I think they are different.

As I said in that thread you bumped, check links in my sig for lots of pics.

Chris,

I had read your threads and they were the final straw in me deciding to make the upgrade.

But I really wanted to get the MDI in their as they have on the Golf's, but I can't establish whether it was ever an option or not.

I've found a console at a breakers yard at a reasonable price - so I might get it and see what I can do. Might have to fit the MDI without the cage and run the cable through into the storage area.

Ah ok, great. Good luck with it then.

After lots of research I have come to the conclusion that the Octavia has no option to have the MDI unit in a cage located in the armrest.

To make it worse, retro fitting a Golf armrest is not possible because the handbrake is on the opposite side! (i.e. nearest the passenger seat in a Golf and driver's seat in an Octavia).

Oh well!

Anyone got pictures of the Skoda glovebox open showing MDI in an Octavia?

This is from Skoda (Octy brochure) but it is slightly different in mine being as its at the opposite side right as opposed to left (pic is a LHD) just the small socket that sits out from side wall inside and you plug your MDI cables into that. I think its better than in glove box as your less restricted by what you plug into it as some plug a portable HDD in and I cant see one fitting in the arm rest version on Golf.

Hi K,

I am thinking of fitting an MDI and may go for either the glovebox or jumbo-box. Which ever location I think I will need to use the MDI AMI extension cable (p/n: 000051447) which is about 40cm long.

Remove the MDI from its cage and fit either behind glovebox or below handbrake centre trim and run this extension cable to glovebox or inside the jumbo box and fix in place.

The USB or I-pod cables then connect to this new MDI socket as shown in Fubars photo.

My MDI is not in a cage at present and given that it won't go in the armrest, I see no point in pursuing that line now.

Thanks for the above information. I think I've just clicked how it all goes together.

MDI box > Extension cable > MDI Cable trim > MDI cable > iPod/HD/phone/etc.

The first 2 out of sight, the middle one securing it all to the side of the glovebox and the last two in the glovebox.

Here we go... Can anyone source MDI Mounting brackets?

Had seen the guide thanks.

But there seemed to be some small details missing (ie the link between the MDI box & the lead to the phone, etc.

My dealer told me that SUK had the mounting bracket on 'back order' (no date given for arrival)!

I'll have a close look at the MDI cable trim and see if it matches up with the extension cable you posted a link to.

If it does, then problem solved and I can neatly mount the MDI box behind any bit of trim and have just the trim and one cable showing.

And the final cable can be changed to USB for hard drives or for firmware upgrades to MDI.

Now - buy a jumbo box and mount it in there or vandalise my current centre console?
