joe_vrs_tdi, turbo blown, a few more questions

Featured Replies

Coming home from work and i thought i was james bond! White smoke like nothing i have seen before, really thick and would stop for ages after i turned the car off. Then i found my rear of the car caped in oil and dripping from the exhaust wich explain the white smoke as all my oil decide to burn itself through my exhaust system.

Is this turbo failure or some seal blown to cause this much oil? I havent looked yet car is still in the lay by waiting for a tow home :(

  • Dude!! That's some slick!! I recommend renaming your car Exxon Valdez

Any bang? Pop? Loss of boost?

I would certainly say it is turbo related unfortunately.

Those symptoms match what happened to me in my previous Fab, plus a loud clattering noise as the turbo spectacularly destroyed itself.

Yours, however, might just be the seals failing. Pop as much info on here as you can and more enlightened folks than myself will be able to help you further. For what its worth, I hope its not too serious and you can get it sorted relatively quickly and cheaply.

Needless to say, but don't drive it!

Like a poof like the cooler pipe not as loud and loss of boost like the cooler pipe. I rolled into the lay by and turned it off i dared not to drive and drive and good job as there would be no oil. My mate is saying something like turbo ran on its own oil and caused it to go pop

I know how you feel, as before mine failed I was looking into upgrading anyway.

Mine was replaced with an Allard VT2 unit, a hybrid PD150. Great service and a decent price from them (£950 approx). Once fully sorted (new turbo, Forge FMIC & Blueflame catback fitted & custom mapped all at Shark Performance) it was worth the hassle.

Good luck getting it sorted

If you've still got the cat in the exhaust, it'll be caked too. Probably best to add that to the list of things to check. Things look bad at the moment but at least it didn't feed the engine on the oil and go runaway!

Here's hoping it's back on the road soon.

Yer cat is still on the car. If i go pd150 i will decat i think anyway as i hear they can take it better.

Well i just changed my insurance over to my old mans 2.0 focus that for some reason he kept around and its costing me 33 a month instead of 70 on the vrs so that will save a bit as it will be off the road a good few months saving for a new turbo.

Turbos gone mate. Mine did the same thing! Pd150 hybrid time ;)

If your own car no longer has an active policy on it, then you must declare it SORN asap and return the taxdisc, failure to do so will lead to a fine. Since early this year its been illegal to own a taxed but uninsured car and the fine is quiet large.

i am dont worry, i just put 6 months on it aswell. i have filled the log book out ready and the focus log book aswell being sent in the post after my tea.

Wow that's some splatter up the back of the car! Doesn't sound like that engine ran on its oil though as when you'd switched off it would have carried on running had to be stalled I think? So probably just the seals failed.

GotBoost in Bridgend supplied and fitminefield hybrid from turbo dynamics, can't fault them tbh!

Yer engine revs stayed ok and switched off fine. i was thinking got boost to do my work but its getting it down there. i will get my mate to fit the turbo and all then drive it down to got boost for a new map i think also to keep the torques down so i don't have to spend on a new clutch just yet aswell. what turbo did you put on josh aswell?

They'll sort you out with a good custom map :) I went with the md446 pd130 stage 2 hybrid! Really happy with it it picks up really well from low revs with zero lag!

It was mapped @ 218bhp/301ft lbs to preserve my standard clutch, it was a very smooth map and my clutch is just fine!

If you speak to Craig tell him josh with the Ibiza fr sent you, he should sort you out for a good deal!

If you fancy coming out for a spin some time let me know :)

Ps-get it recovered down there? Although if your mate can fit it it'll save you some cash!

What else you got to get it to 218? I did look at that turbo its a pretty decent price on the website to be fair.

I was chatting to him about option when i went down for a rr day and he was really down to earth telling me what to buy if i did fit it myself and they would map it no problem. Not being snoby like some places that dont like if you dont go to them for labour etc

Piper decat and forge seat sport style fmic mate, yeah he's pretty cool like that. The tuning company's a second job on the side so they aren't really pushy trying to sell you stuff etc.

Can't recommend them enough tbh they've been really good with me and my jinxed car lol

Which one of five did it on yours Dav? hehe

All five mate lol sorted the problem now I think thanks to :)
