its designed to replace ms paint.. its still in development but its a handy util to have.

The GNU Image Manipulation Program (aka The GIMP) is also free. It's more like Photoshop than Paint, in other words it's pretty comprehensive. Although it was developed in the Unix/Linux world there are versions now available for Windows.

good find!! That coveres the rasterised imaging, but also to complete the package, how about www.inkscape.org for some vector based graphics. Full opensource replacement for photoshop or psp, and illustrator

Trouble i find with gimp is its more geared around effects than manipulation, this one seems to be geared for manipulation such as selection tools etc.

Help please as I don't understand all of the technical terms - are the three packages described above singular, i.e. download 1 of the 3 recommended?
