Am I being impatient with my Skoda dealership?

Featured Replies

Newbie here - go easy on me!

I bought a pre-owned VRS about 3 weeks ago from a Skoda main dealer. I don't intend to name and shame them however - I just want to seek opinions!

Now I'm a pretty easy going guy and really don't like to complain but am getting near to phoning up and asking to speak to a manager as I feel like I'm being given the run around.

Upon collecting my car around three weeks ago, I was very pleased with everything up until that point - the collection date was arranged, the car was prepared to my satisfaction however it was established that whilst the MOT had apparently been (just) done they didn't have the certificate to hand and would pop it in the post. No problem. That has not arrived yet.

Secondly, upon purchasing the car, I elected to buy an additional year of warranty cover on top of the 1 year I already got buying from a main dealer. Excellent. My salesman seemed to have overlooked this however when I came to pay for the car, and I had to remind him so he could correct the paperwork... two weeks ago I got the paperwork through from the main Skoda warranty department which showed me as having 1 years warranty TWICE for May 2012 - May 2013. I rang them up to correct and they said that their information seemed to be correct, and that the supplying dealer needed to rectify this.

I rang the dealer.. the salesman I dealt with was off. Leave a message, and he will call me back tomorrow. He didn't. So I rang the day after, and he does return my call. I explain the problem - no problem he says, he'll deal with it. I haven't heard anything. I subsequently sent an email to him on Monday just asking for an update, and surprise surprise no reply.

I went with Skoda for two reasons.. Octavia VRS is a great car, and I heard nothing but good things about the great level of service at the dealership. Aside from a number of problems with my car which I'm subsequently discovering overall I think the car is fantastic, however at this point I'm feeling quite underwhelmed by the service I've received so far on the paperwork issues.

So after all that - would you guys at this point be asking to politely speak to a manager to get this all resolved? Or am I being impatient?

Thanks.

There is no such thing as an MOT certificate any more.

You can check it online now for proof it's done.

Indeed... I would, if only my logbook had come through (so that I had the Document Reference Number) so I could do the check.

And I believe you do still get an MOT certificate, albeit a crappy piece of printed white paper rather than the old green one!

It only proves it passed or failed. It is worthless as no watermarks etc. Just literally text on a plane sheet of A4.

Yes you do still get the certificate, but as you say, it's a crappy piece of white paper.

Next year you won't even get that so I'm told.

As to the problem of the warranty, I would give the sales guy one last chance to rectify the error to your satisfaction and within, say, 7 days. Tell him that if not, you will be making a formal complaint to his manager and/or Skoda UK

Hopefully that will do the trick ?

Cheers.

Think I will let this week run through to give him a fair chance to reply or give me some kind of update.. and then if not, I might have to get frosty.

I just want to get the warranty discrepancy squared away quickly whilst it's all still fresh in my (and their) mind so that there is no confusion if I come to claim over a year from now!

Be firm but fair.

In all honesty your opening post summed up the situation perfectly.

Copy and paste this into an email to the salesman.

Oh, and don't be worried about naming the dealership!

Cheers :) Have decided to let the week roll past and if I hear nothing, phone up and ask to speak to someone in charge on Monday.

As others have said I think your being completely fair and you have more patience than me, I would have been onto the manager and then skoda uk as soon as he failed to call be back the first time.

It just irritates me that is has to come to this. Not that it should matter but it's not like I was a problem customer, nor did I even haggle on the price of the car - I turned up, had a test drive and basically with 20 minutes said I wanted to buy the car. I paid the screen price as I thought it was a good deal. I paid a deposit, and came and paid on a debit card for the balance of the car when asked - so it infuriates me, being given the run around!

Someone's ears must have been burning - he emailed me this afternoon to say the MOT certificate is in the post, and that the warranty department have been notified.

I will have to give them a call to get the warranty info reissued to me then I guess so I have paper proof!

Cheers all.

One reason I will not miss my Octy VRs is the utterly appalling service I received from my local dealer - Idiots. My advice if you have an issue is give them a week to sort it then go direct to Skoda UK.

Like all marques there's good and bad dealers.

Hope eveything works out ok for you Chicane
