Park Assist - Kerbing

Featured Replies

A number of people have commented on the hazard of Kerbing when using `Park Assist`. Does anyone use the system regularly without any such trouble? Are there any tips on how to avoid Kerbing?

Many thanks.

Just remember that it's called "Park ASSIST" and not "I'll park it for you." It will get you into a tight space and it will try to line you up with the cars in front and behind. If either/both of those are very close to the kerb, you may well touch it. Keep an eye on it all the time and if it looks like a contact will occur, intervene!

I've used it for more than four years, on and off, never had a problem. There's already a recent thread on this, here.

If the vehicle being used by the system is narrower than the Superb, then you will end up with the edge of the car protruding and possibly hitting a kerb, especially if the narrower vehicle is tight to the kerb.

I see. So the system is focused on the cars in front and behind rather than on the Kerb. That's interesting. Other than moving the other cars away from the kerb...I guess theres nothing else can be done! Many thanks `Roadcrafty` and `Finding my Feet.

The system cannot see he kerb (or can it) just the gap and I presume makes a assumption on the depth of the space.

I dunno about that. I seem to remember a few years ago I was gonna buy a Toyota Prius and the system in that allowed you to move `the box` in which it was gonna park itself. So presumably you could move it slightly away from the kerb. That would, I suppose, prevent kerbing.

as ray said above you are the driver use your mirrors and you wont hit anything you don't have do anything but brake when the car tells you. the car will do the rest.

very good system i used mine 2 years no problem

The car assumes that the cars its parking around are the same width as itself.

If that really is the case, then I dont see how it can hit the kerb. I'm looking forward to trying this out as soon as I take delivery....whenever thats gonna be!!!

Well I used mine a couple of imes today and now that I am more confident in its use the comfortable I am in using it without worring.

My ex Skoda UK superb was testimony to the kerbside damage, one alloy wheel was damaged from kerbing and yep it was the rear UK passenger side. All the other 3 wheels were in perfect condition. I only tried park assist once, and that was with my brothers kids in the car as a laugh for them. Never used it myself afterwards, as I found I could park it myself quicker and better than it managed.

I use the Park Assist frequently, without problems. It's brilliant.

One day I was using it,. I saw a chap on the footpath stop and look at me, mouth open wide (his, not mine) as the car's steering wheel made all sorts of manoeuvres and my hands down by my side.

That would have been a picture to capture.
