ROOMSTER SEAT BELT BUCKLE FAILED AND REPLACED

Featured Replies

Had my first problem with the 2007 Roomster Scout 1.9 TDI , and that was the drivers seat belt buckle failed last Friday. If I depressed the red button I could get it to catch, and work but it would be classed as a MOT failure and I feared it would fail completely at any moment. Goggled all and sundry and came up with Deutscheparts on E-Bay selling new for £22.95 post free. Part number is 5J0858472A and found on plastic part of stalk.

Said on the website it was Fabia only but on calling dealer he confirmed it was right for the Roomster.

Seemed the cheapest new item I could find , but I admit I didn’t try main dealers and wasn,t in the mood to mess about!

Fitted yesterday, and hoped the seat would just slide out like my old VWs , but no they don’t!

Had to take seat right out to install, after disconnecting battery. Seat rails held in by 4 x 10mm splined bolts.

Once bolts undone I tipped seat sideways and carefully disconnected electrical sockets connecting wiring coming from the floor, so I could remove seat from car. I could then see how plug from seat belt socket under the seat disconnected by gently prising the side retaining clips with small screwdrivers to free it.

I then cut in half the cable to the old buckle stalk to free if from, and not damage the white plastic under seat retainers, which I could then use again to secure the new cable.

Unbolted old stalk, and bolted new stalk to seat frame. Using 2 new plastic cable ties fastened the new cable to the existing white plastic cable retainers , and snapped the plug back into place.

Then put the seat belt back into the car and connected the floor wiring plugs to the seat.

Bolted seat back down firmly , reconnected battery and checked that seatbelt light went out when belt inserted.

Sorry no photos started to rain mid job.

Now I have done it once it will be much easier second time, if it ever happens again!

What a pitty you didn't get any photos. That could be a wonderful DIY guide. Glad you solved your problem.
