Hid help

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Hope you lot can help I recently bought a set of projector headlights the ones that were from the group buy a while back they look superb and build quality is superb my problem is that the light from them is to say the least p@#h they have 6000k 35w supervision bulbs with 85v/35w ballast.

I had a virtual daylight hid kit in old standard headlights and they were superb.

It's that bad the osram nightbreakers that I put into main beam are better

Please help as I want to keep them in

Regards Whoosh

Sell them to me :D..!

But to your question.. from my knowledge 6k lighting will make it clearer in contrast true colour but perhaps not as 'bright' as you would for warmer coloured light. Your eyes are more sensitive in terms of distinguishing contrast difference in warmer white.

Coupled with the fact that the projector beams has a straight cut off point in light, that will tell your brain its more restricting. I haven't got a set myself to compare but from a projector vs non projector pov that's what I notice.

The guy above is correct. To give you an idea, My OEM xenons are 4/4.5K, and I'm never EVER going back to regular bulbs, they are, and look great.

Hope this helps

Thanks folks for all replies I will need to find a set of 55w bulbs and ballasts if I want more light

Regards Whoosh

Get a good quality set of 35w 4300k capsules and get the lamps aimed on the legal limit and you won't be disappointed!

There's a really good reason why manufacturers use that particular colour temp for their Xenons

You're experiencing classic style over function with the 6000k

Re yellower lighting creates more contrast in your black and white or shade senses in your eyes (forgot the terminology), it has less refinement of colour; iirc 256 shades? as opposed to millions of individual colours but has significantly higher sensitivity. i.e. your able to 'see in the dark' more. I'll try find a link to explain, my brain is like a goldfish, was a while ago since I done optics..

Edit: Cant find the exact one im looking for but they're based on cones and rods.

Cheapest option would be trying different K lighting, and perhaps a better brand. Uprating the bulbs will make it brighter but your faced with the same situation before you had the projector headlights - dazzling oncoming cars... Plus the fact your shelling more out for a non perfect solution which imo isn't a good way to go :p

Or.. cut your losses and sell them to me  .

I'm back to eat humble pie and to say that I'm getting used to the light . And as my m8 pointed out to me I was wasted with the last hid kit I had in the car which as he put it "could burn the paint off the car infront" . The light was spread all over the place.

New lights all adjusted and I'm getting used to them might get better brand of bulb at a later date.

Sorry JL I'm not selling

Regards Whoosh?

Get a 4300k 55w kit. That's what I run and the light output is very good.

I went for an Ebay China special from a vendor called king-hid

They've come down in price since I got mine, it's suspiciously cheap now, but that link above is the same kit as I have.
