Which HTC handset?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I currently have the HTC Desire with Android 2.2

Looking to upgrade soon and wondering what handset to look for next. I like the HTC brand, and will definitely be sticking with Android. Not so keen on Samsung for some reason....

I want the next handset to be at least on a par with the Desire, so I'm presuming I need to avoid the Wildfire S?

Looking at T-Mobile/Orange and looking to spend a max of £20 a month with no cost for the handset (ideally)

Any suggestions?

thanks

Martin

Galaxy sII m8 seriously good piece of kit

HTC's have delicate screens, sure it was someone on here that broke one!!

I have the Desire S, i.e. the successor to your phone, and have anjoyed it as my first Android phone. I did have early problems and had to complete a factory reset twice not long after getting as it kept freezing and crashing it but it was fine after that..........until HTC decided to automatically update to the latest software. Don't get me wrong it's been a good phone but there are the well broadcast technical glitches with the latest software.

I got my phone on contract via buymobilephones.net and got unlimited data, unlimited texts and 300 mins landline or cross network minutes per month for £20.42 per month.

Would I get another HTC? Maybe, possibly a Samsung next time but definately NOT jumping on the iPhone band wagon!

Regards

I know people have broken just about every brand. All screens are pretty much the same strength, and the majority are Gorilla Glass anyway. It's more about how it's dropped and onto what surface that dictates if your screen breaks or is OK.

As for the OP, Sensation XE can be had cheaply enough for free, otherwise you're looking at a One S or X.

I was referring to the op lol he broke his screen a few months back was just a lil wind up lol.

The s2 is my first touch screen phone and I find it brilliant for everything I can throw at it one of the most unexpected things is watching netflicks on it, can't believe how easy it is to watch films etc on it

Sent from my GT-I9100. Not a Crapple!

I have a Sensation with AOKP ICS running on it.

Decent phone.

I think there is news of grip of death (like iphone 4 ) issues with latest htc, be careful before you leap

i have an s2 and would defo agree with raf

I was an HTC fan for years but have defected to Samsung Siii had it since Friday -amazing phone. HTC one s doesn't look bad for a mid price phone and I'm sure the Samsung galaxy sii can probably be had at a reduced price. I read somewhere the they had sold 120 million sii phones and there's a good reason

I wonder how it is that the HTC One X at £21pm (with T-Mobile) is free via buymobilephones.net, but the same tariff on T-Mobile's own website shows the phone costing £210? Too good to be true?

Sensation has death grip as well

What's death grip?

What's death grip?

The same crap the iPhone 4G had. Signal drop when holding it with your hands, i.e. without a case.

As said it is what happens to the Iphone 4, with the HTC's its Wifi as well as mobile signal.

I also have migrated from HTC to Samsung. I had a Desire HD before this and was fully expecting to upgrade to a One X being an avid HTC fan. I waited to try the S3 and for me the OneX offered nothing extra. I know people have mentioned Samsung warranty/after sales but I tried to get mine repaired by HTC (the charger wouldn’t sit right in the slot) and they wouldn’t.

It’s down to personal preference really but I based my decision on things like Gorilla glass, removable battery (standard is higher capacity too), memory expansion with exFAT support, Touchwiz improvements. I also like the fact is has a Wolfson DAC chip plus voodoo sound support if rooted.

What I would say is go in a shop and try the phones out you like and make your own decision.

You have to ask yourself these to decide/eliminate phones.

1. Do you want to expand your phone's memory capacity? - That eliminates HTC One X & Iphones.

2. Do you want to be able to replace your battery? - That eliminates HTC One X & Iphones.

3, Do you want a decent camera? - That eliminates the lower end of the market, look for 8mp or more.

4. Do you want to be able to transfer files (music & pdf files), use it with car hands free systems listen to music via Bluetooth - That eliminates the Iphone.

Avoid Symbian & Bada OS's they're pretty much redundant.

i have a HTC sensation XL and i love it.. its like a mini tab. it has the Dr dre beats Audio too which sounds nuts. maybe once a month i have to restart it. love it

I just replaced my desire with a samsung galaxy s3 and it is an utterly fabulous phone. Mind you I had rooted my desire and installed revolution rom which transformed it from the way htc shipped it.

I happened to be going past a Carphone Warehouse at the weekend, so I popped in and had a look at the HTC One X. Boy, that thing is BIG! I'm not even sure that will fit in my trousers! (And yes, I'm still talking about the phone!)

Its not that much bigger than the Sensation XL... Its not that bad. Now, my boss' Galaxy Note, that's one bloody big phone.

5. Do you want good battery life - That eliminates 99% of high end smart phones.

I have a HTC One X, absolutely love it, Android is much much better than it used to be, used to be quite rubbish. Dont expect more than a day usage on average though.

I recently changed from a Desire to the One S - really love it. Very fast, great camera. Also really like the build quality and feel of it. The metal case gives it a nice premium feel to it. Didn't go for the One X as too big in my opinion

I also played with the SIII in CarphoneWarehouse, but I think it is too big and I really like the HTC Sense, also note that the SIII doesn't have a recent-app button, you long press the home key, like old school Android. I find the recent-app button quite handy and quick to use.

Battery life seems better than my 18month old Desire too, which is pleasing.

I would say the One S is a good choice if you want to be able to use easily with one hand and don't need the extra storage space. I think it also looks better than the One X...

Guess you didn't try the Galaxy Note then- I'm a heavy (and I mean heavy) phone user.

The 2500mAh battery on a Note lasts me for a full day, with some charge to spare.

The Sensation XE I used to have had 2 spare batteries for it. Typically, by mid morning, it would need a fresh battery.

I've moved from HTC to Samsung. As long as you use the Swype keyboard, they are more intuitive and I prefer the graphic layouts.

No didn't try the Note, already have a tablet. :giggle: As mentioned a day is fine. :)

Being able to swap batteries is a major point, during a night shift I can use at least 240% of battery power lol got 2 spare ones

Do you know how the XE battery life compares to the original Desire, as that's the move I'm making.

A couple of my workmates have the Desire. It's better on battery than the XE. I'm selling my old XE with a spare battery, Zagg screen protector and superb CaseMate case if you want in. Not even 6 months old, got it as a stop gap.

Chronic- it is massive, but it is lovely! :giggle:
