Let the modding begin!

Hi All,

Exciting day today as all my new mods have arrived and the car is in at MB motorsport having them fitted. My car is a 2010 Octy VRS TSI with DSG.

Parts going on are:

Blue flame turbo back exhaust with 200 cel cat (custom dual tail pipes rather than their standard Oval)

H&R Cup suspension kit (35mm drop)

Whiteline 24mm RARB

EBC Green pads

Poly lower engine mount insert

The car already has a PDT stage 1 map but I'm going to go with a Jabba Sport map later this week as MB are a Jabba re-seller.

Should be picking her up later today!

That's a good collection of parts.

What H&R are those?

  • Author

Bought most of them from DPM as Damian always looks after things :)

Suspension is the "Cup" kit, uses Bilsten made shocks with H&R 35mm springs.

Damian has been great with me on Whiteline items, you will notice a massive difference with the RARB :)

Picked the car up about an hour ago and went for a spin along my usual fast route.

External look.

Externally the car looks subtley different, the old Tractor look of the VRS is gone but it isn't mega low. I bet most folks wouldn't notice and my E90 325i M-Sport was still lower from the factory but I suspect it will settle a bit more.

The main thing is now the front and rear look level, rather than the front looking like it is 10-15mm higher as before.

The exhaust looks almost standard too, sits slightly to the Right more than I would like but will get them to look at that when I'm back for the Jabba map.

First start up

First thoughts were "oh no, this exhaust is way too loud" a wave of panic hit me. The whole car was reverberating on idle in a totally not cool way.

I set off and the sound when moving was fine, really nice in fact and not that loud at all but everytime I came to a stop.....BOOOOOOOOOOOOM droning bass sound.

I went home, took the old exhuast and suspenion out of the boot so i could test handling, the back seats were down to acomodate the parts.

Having put the back seat up suddenly all the intrusive booming noise is gone......massive wave of relief!

Had a 30 min blast on my fave route

The exhaust is now really nice and solved two issues I was having with my car.

1) - With DSG it is very hard to feel any feedback when changing gear which while very fast, took some of the fun out. Now I get a nice audible "blip" in the exhaust note that really put a smile on my face ;)

2) My mpg seemed to be 5mpg down on what i should be getting, now when cruising at 60 I am getting over 45mpg but before I was struggling to get 36mpg.

The ride feels more comfortable than standard, I'm not sure how this is possible but it rides the bumps just the same but with less of the bouncyness after hitting a dip or large bump.

Turn in is also much improved

The car doesn't roll as much and wants to slide at the limit, feels more like my old Beemer on round abouts.

It isn't a night and day transformation and I still dont think it handles as well and the E90 M-sport but it is a lot closer and even my old IHI powered MK1 Octavia with KW V3s, Neuspeed ARBs, Strut braces didn't handle as well as the BMW.

Will try and get some pics soon and will do an update once I have put a few more miles on, had the new mappng added.

Interesting, running a set of similar mods myself, why change map though, wouldnt pdt upgrade u to stage 2 for less? My milltek is slightly offset at the moment too, was fine when we fitted it lol get some pics up of the car now with the suspension etc fitted!

This is a tough question, before I had the work done. I was getting really bad MPG (20 at best in town and no more than 36 on a run) and I put this down to PDT's map as that was the only unusual thing about the car.

Now that I have the exahust and downpipe on, my MPG is much better (like 5-10 mpg better) but looking at the old cat, it doesn't look damaged or crumbled in anyway. I have heard good things about PDT on the UKMK5s forum but not so great things from others.

So to be sure there are no issues, I was thinking of just moving to a Jabba Sport map as I've never heard a bad word about them

However I think I will drive the car a bit more first as I may not have any problems now.

Cheers

Get yer ass to Shark man enjoy the smoooooth progressive power.

Nice update Ron,

What else you got planned? Still thinking of going KO4?

Get yer ass to Shark man enjoy the smoooooth progressive power.

If my car wasn't DSG then I would but I've not read good things about Shark and DSG (Audi forums). Aparently their maps dont make good figures without also having a DSG remap which is another £300 or £200 if with the remap making it £600

This is because you can fool the DSG torque limiter into thinking there is less torque but Shark dont do this and so you need their DSG map. Revo work around this by scaling down the output from the ECU to the DSG controller.

Also......MB (Jabba) is £300

PDT want £100 to upgrade to stage 2 but I have some doubts in my mind about them, having read a lot of threads and spoken to people directly.

Has any on here had a map by PDT before?

Cheers

Mey mark, I think for now I will get used to this new set up and divert my attention to getting the parking sensors done. Next mod will be an S3 intercooler, that's a pricey one though so need to save up some cash ;)

Car feel rapid though so not sure if Ko4 is needed!

Nice write up, thanks.

Dyno plot?

  • Author

Will get one once I have the Jabba map on there, I have a dyno plot for the PDT map and it was making 238bhp/276lbs on 95 RON unleaded

If I was doing it all again, I would go APR (still might anyway), no else offers as complete a package, why not give em a shout

  • Author

I did speak to Apr as I like the idea of their switchable maps and they have a great rep. Pricey though!
