lowering questions

Featured Replies

Think about getting mr vRS lowered soon but:

what benefits would lower springs have apart from appearance?

Are there any downsides such as increased tyre wear?

What sort of price would you be looking at to get them fitted at a dealer or somewhere like Jabba Sport?

Thanks

looking to get my octy vrs lowered too, ne one know where i can get it done in wrexham area?

Had it remapped last week so want it to handle even better now that its got more power.

You will have a better handling car for starters, a lot of people describe it as 'how it should be out of the factory'.

Downsides are a probably more crashy / harsher ride on rough roads, maybe scraping on low speed bumps, curbs, etc.

Not sure on the tyre wear front, can't imagine if it would make much difference.

Price wise, a lot of people are quoted for fitment and geometry alignment, but I know a few people who have put the springs on themselves DIY at home, and not had a problem.

Looking at maybe doing it myself in the future.

Do you like how the car behaves during sudden or fast turns? If you're ok with it then there's probably no other benefit for you except from appearance. With me it's the other way round. I don't have the slightest complaint on the looks of it but I am frustrated at how much I lean to the side in most turns outside town.

Is there a link of a DIY guide maybe for that? I am most interested....

Mine haven't become crashier and it was as comfortable as the stock-setup (just shows how bad the dampers / springs work with eachother).

No scraping aswell, but I've only lowered it by 30 mm and I'm using Weitec dampers + their springs!

If your changing springs, your best off with checking the wheel-alignment!

It's so little extra money it's worth it... Hell, it fixed the cars first behavior.

Always having to counter-steer to keep it straight!

I could write a DIY-guide when I'm home tomorrow if there is any interest in it.

I've put h&r springs on my VRS and it does make the handle and look a lot better,I fitted mine my self but had use of a ramp, the backs were easy coz they were only held on by one bolt but the front was a ball ache coz uve got to take the drive shaft out on one side

I would really appreciate a guide on this if available... The idea of fitting them myself grows in me day by day.

Afraid that I have misplaced my installation-instructions from Skoda =/.

It's however not rocket-sience. Just undo the wheel, the brake-caliper, the drive-shaft and then the damper.

Should take about 2-4 hours depending on how smoothtly it's going.

The only "tricky" bit is when you're getting the damper out.

It's installed in a clamp, which you have to bend abit. But don't bend it too much or it will snap!

When bending it, you simply have to tap out the damper from it.

Remember to tap on the damper only and not on the clamp!

Besides that it's pretty much straight-forward i'd say...

If anyone feels I'm wrong, feel free to correct me.

Not too sober today x).

Thanks for the replies. I've got a good quote from Jabba Sport to supply and fit these as well as do the tracking afterwards.

Presumably as the Eibach's are Skoda approved, it won't make the warrenty invalid?

Presumably as the Eibach's are Skoda approved, it won't make the warrenty invalid?

There has been conversation about this before in other threads, and when I asked skoda about it they said even if you buy it from and get them to fit it, it would void the warranty on the suspension, but warranty on everything else is still in tact. Can't imagine do much could go wrong, but correct me if I'm wrong.

The shocks may wear out faster as they are designed to work with a different spring but that's all assuming they're fitted correctly.
