DPF Removal..the results

Featured Replies

Just arrived back home and to be brutally honest, the car feels no different haha!

The DPF software has been mapped out and the stage one replaced with a stage two, so i was expecting abit more oomph (now running 1.7bar, 1.5bar before) but it feels just the same, might take a few more miles for the map to adjust a few things.

Exhaust note is slightly more noticeable, especially on idle, sounds alot more 'hollow' and lower pitched.

As for smog, couldt see anything out the rear view (keeping in mind a mapped car always smokes more) and other half said there was nothing more there then what a normal diesel would put out so thats all good, even though theres carbon on the exhaust tips for the first time :(

Either way i would recommend this (anyone up the North East area, ill recommend the bloke who did mine) No more regerations, no more lumpy/sluggish driving and burning fuel like its going out of fashion, happy days!

Have you done enough miles to notice a difference in overall fuel consumption Ema Jane?

I manage a pretty consisent 48MPG in my PD vRS (manual calculation) and often wondered if removing the DPF would see a reduction in consumption.

Do you mind sharing with us the approximate cost of the removal and remap in total?

I give up cleaning my miltek now, always black!

The garage is in Stockton so iv done about 30 miles so not really far enough to get a good average...and i cant say i was 'eco' driving :D

Apparently removing the DPF increases MPG, as it will not be regenerating, burning more fuel and with the honeycomb taken out it in a sense de-restricts the exhaust

I got 43mpg on the way home but i was on and off the throttle all the time.

Yes but most of us regen very rarely so that's not an issue. I get 50mpg out of mine combined driving.

I taugh u would notice a big power increase with it removed. I didn't know u already had stage one maybe this is what recked ur dpf all along!

Yeah it most likely has but i was going to remove it anyways so i could go further with the power gain :) it was going to go regardless of it regenerating every 30miles :wall:

Silver1011! I cant inbox you :hi:

And not to mention they are not actually made to last the life time off the car so id rather get it removed then pay stupid amounts of money getting a new one, i dont care about the environment so therefore nor does my car :)

What's the main point for you doing this - improved performance or better economy? Given its a vrs I assumed the former!

It was knackered, i work as a home care worker, in other words about 30 miles of urban driving per day, this was killing the DPF and it was getting to the point of doing a force regeneration every other day, it had to come out but i wanted it out anyways so i could get some more horses out the engine, DPF restricts this.

That's understandable. Just asking as you'd commented about improving economy and was about to glibly suggest getting a smaller engined TD :)

This is something im thinking about anyways, my vRS is also lowered by 55mm and has some pretty nice alloys on so its was not intended to be a work horse and im sick of ruining it, almost beached it on a high curb the other day  Also want something that i can take the dogs out in without panicking when one looks abit green!

Thinking on a 1.7dti mk4 Astra..not a fan of the GM motor but its a shed, im not suppose to like it!

The 1.7 Astra are a good car and that 1.7 izuzu engine is bomb proof too :)

I did not know you had a cai and full miltek now

Where did you go in stockton? It was somewhere in stokesley that did your stage 1 wasn't it?

Whose map is that? You should definitely be able to feel a difference. I'd recommend you trial Shark's one day.

I would have taught at stage 2 and dpf removal it should be an animal to go now and feel like a diff car really.

I'd suspect the remap and the extra smoke it's producing is the reason for your 30 mile regens. A good tune shouldn't be smokey.

I have the DPF removed from my Vrs and had the Stage Zero map, all done by Shark. No power gaines with the Map but the car was noticeably faster without the DPF. It pulled better more MPG all in all a better car.

It doesn't, completely OEM exhaust

Big fish tuning for the map, Fast Auto Care did the removal

Iv still got OEM clutch on and this is not a generic map, he has put alot of power up at the top to save my clutch. I only got chance to do short bursts of power yesterday, due idiots on the moors roads doing 40mph :wall:

All mapped diesels smoke, like i said in my first post is does not smoke much at all, i expected to be quite abit but obviously not

And like i said before DPF's are not designed to last the life time off the car, iv had a Skoda mechanic say to me that alot of them will give up the ghost around 70-80k miles, depending how it has been driven all its life. Ifs its a motorway car and does alot of high rev driving then it might last but mine does alot of urban driving and hardly ever see's a duel carriage way. So im not going to blame the map for the death of my DPF, it needed removing as they are s***

As Nick_p said you should feel some difference with it removed and mapped

i know i did when i had mine done by shark the other month, pulls like a

train now

+1..mines a stage 0 too, still pulls like a train

It still pulls like a train but like i said before, he has put all the power at the top end in order to save my clutch a little more.

hi got any pics as im thinking of lowering my vrs and what size wheels/tyres u got on?

I thought you could not go to stage 2 with oem exhaust you cannot get high enough boost?
