And I've also taken the plunge

Featured Replies

As you might have seen in my thread "Roofbox", I've gone for a 1.8TFSI SE Plus Estate in Petrol Blue. Estimated delivery by about end August/early September. I've gone for heated windscreen and seats, front parking sensors, heated washers, dipping mirror, retracting parcels shelf and spare wheel. Taking advantage of zero% VAT, and as low mileage don't want the hassle of DPF, and slow warm up.

Will post photos once delivered.

This forum has been invaluable in deciding to buy at all and which model/extras to specify; so thanks to all contributors whose advice I've taken whilst lurking

Congratulations, nice choice of car and spec.

Latest news........ Dealer giving me fortnightly updates. two weeks ago forecast build date week 33, yesterday forecast week 36. Ho hum....

This forum has taught me the virtue of patience!!

The 1.8TSI engine is just sublime, as smooth as a V6 and as quiet as a quiet thing. Just watch the petrol bills, though - if you even breathe on the throttle, the economy plunges; I drive as though there's a little fluffy caterpillar on the throttle on mostly quiet 'A' roads and I'm struggling to get above 33mpg. Still a great engine, though; worth the bills.

As smooth as a V6 huh ! Have you driven one, I think you'll find a world of difference.

Interestingly in my first 11,000 miles I#m averaging a genuine 30 mpg, which makes me feel a great deal better about my engine choice.

Whatever, 100andThirty endure the wait, whatever engine/options you've chosen you will love the car when it arrives.

Well...last Saturday I part exchanged a V8 (Jaguar) for a new 1.8Tsi and apart from a little turbo lag (the Jag was normally aspirated) I have to tell you I'm mightily impressed with the power delivery. As far as MPG is concerned I've now put nearly 300 miles on the clock and according to the Maxidot I'm getting 38.7 MPG...not bad eh!

38.7 on the maxi dot probably means around 35.5 in reality. It had better be a good engine used by low mileage drivers with figures like that!

Well, I've not driven a Superb V6, but I've driven plenty of other V6s. Have you actually driven a 1.8TSI, a Skoda one? I literally cannot hear the engine at idle, and at 60mph the loudest noise in the car is the ticking of my brain. Acceleration comes in a gentle, insistent wave of torque, with the impression that there is no mechanical friction whatsoever: I think the components caress, rather than contact. I'm sure your engine is lovely, mind.

Yeah, mine over-reads by about 9% and, from what I've read on these forums, most other people's do too. 35.9mpg on the maxi-dot equated to 33.3 in real life. Apparently, you can get this fixed by VCDS, but I'm struggling to get hold of anyone who knows how to do it.

Go to 17 Instruments --> Adaption. In there you will find a selection, where you can correct it, once you´ve calculated how much it´s wrong :)

Thanks for the tip, GaSelle.

................my shiny new petrol blue Superb 1.8TSI SE Plus Estate should have arrived...........and it has! By luck managed to see it just after arrival at Wayside Skoda Milton Keynes on Thursday and collected it this afternoon. Only done a few miles, but well worth the wait. Dealer has been great. Photos to follow.

Petrol Blue is such as great colour. I picked mine up 2 weeks ago and even with 1000 miles on it from mostly dirty B roads it still looks great. Think its going to be one of those colours that still looks great when dirty. Unlike my Race Blue Vrs I traded in. Looking forward to seeing some pics.
