Grey Rubber Covering

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Not sure if this has already been discussed, but the grey rubber covering that goes over the handles & on the centre console is coming off more on the door handles, I just want to know what people have done to sort it out ie re-cover/paint or take it off to show the black shiny effect?

It's looking very taty & also where can I get some chrome covers for the vents & door handle surrounds? I've checked fleabay but can't find anything.

Thanks Marc.

I did this. Took off the covers, boiled some water to boiling temperature, put the covers in the boiling water for 5 minutes. Brushed off the rubber covering and then polished with plastic paste. Looks great and even better. I have the beige interior.

this has certainly appeared on the forum before, though some time ago. I think it was under 'flakey handles' or something. I just bought some new ones and replaced the worn ones. That was about three years ago - all OK so far.

Look for Passat parts - the driver handle at least is the same.

On mine just the driver's one looked dog rough - the rest were like new.

So I bought this and swapped it out. Took around 5 mins.

Both my front grab handles are the same and look very tatty. I've been gradually scratching it off with my fingernail.

Boiling trick sounds like a good idea, and if it all goes pear shaped I can always buy a new pair.

Looked at eBay, but beige isn't so easy to find.

I peeled mine, and as the 1st answerer said it looks much better than the original, I would say use his method as well but be careful not to melt the plastic.

Supurbia did you polished? Because I want to "repair" mine, but I'm not sure If I will like it.

So if anyone can post picture to see how it looks like?

I'll try to make one. I have a SLR sitting in car, but don't have the sufficient memory to make the pictures :D

I've looked for some cream ones and VW beige isn't the same as Skoda cream. thats for sure.

Scraping the cream ones looks pants.

Scraping the grey ones looks fine.

This coating is just pants, pants, pants.....

just last night i did the boiling water trick with a little scrubbing, the coating came off in no time...... BUT now it looks rather milky/chalky if you know what i mean? im thinking maybe polishing it will bring it back to black.??

So how did you peel it off with hot water?

Also how would you go about doing the centre console?

Thanks

And the picture of the Passat leather interior installed in Superb. Drivers seat (in your case passenger seat :D ) is not dirty. Just shadow. Will make some better pictures when I have time.

Hey Browser tnx for pictures. Its look fantastic!

However on black/grey enterier it looks like...well not so good.

Actually it looks ugly because it is very shinny, I tried polished but notting happen.

Now, I can see only one solution-to put foil(grey or black or maybe carbon foil)...

All in all, once again tnx for pictures
