MkIV Recaro's or S3 Recaro's?

Featured Replies

Stick with the S3 ones mate. Much rarer and more sought after seats.

  • billy won't like me for saying this, or agree, but the s3s are much better seat, the r32 looks like they would be better, but they aren't, they aren't anywhere near as comfy, or supportive (the r32 do

Depends if the other seats are better condition. :)

Went with the MkIV's think they look better in the car and also they are four door with rear embossed recaro seats and the fronts weight nothing in comparison

Looking good.

Much better.

MK 4's look way better IMO very nice and look like they should be fitted in the first place

Looking at the photos, the mk4's look better, but then, they're in better condition.

It looks like the S3's are better leather that wear like leather should, rather than the pleather type stuff on the vRS seats which looks similar to the mk4's.

Also, it could look totally different in person.

And lastly, we spend more time sitting in them than looking at them, which is also something to consider.

Not saying one is better than the other as I've no experience with either (yet).

So does no one rate the vrs standard seats, I was always thinking of changing my standard elegance seats for vrs interior, but tge fact you are all looking to upgrade makes me wonder if I should bother. Or is it a case if grass is always greener? :)

The VRS seats are quite comfortable. However offer little support and are a nightmare to keep clean. I've fitted Mk 4 golf cloth recaros soon to be re-trimmed for the VRS look. Lighter than the VRS seats that were removed, more supportive and easier to keep clean. Also look right at home in the octy.

vRS seats are fine.

Only reason I'm changing mine is because I got an offer I couldn't really ignore.

Where and price for work? Pm if better mate.

Wanna look at gettin r32 ones done too.

Least your like me keepin std look. I love the white n black

Do you still have the s3 seats mate as I am looking for some.

s3 have better support, a pull out leg support, better bolster and shoulder support too, not forgetting elec lumbar, elect up down etc, and heated, and are better quality leather, its the same seat they fit in the rs4, rs6 etc basically, you would be mad to swap imo.

Mk Iv's are a bit on the flimsy side. At least S3 has proper support.

But yes those fronts are bitchingly heavy, and the quality of the rear seats isn't anything like the fronts. But then again, none of the other rears are any better.

Apart from the weight, the only real downside I can see to my S3 seats (thanks Luca) is the rear middle seat only has a lap belt. So for anybody who might happen to have 3 kids, it's an absolute no-no, outright.

Personally, after several thousand miles in an S4 to Woerthersee and back this year, I found the seats to be awful for long journeys. The vRS seats are a nightmare to keep clean, but they're very comfortable for me and the lumbar is excellent. Can't say that about standard MKIVs. I've not tried S3 seats, but if they're anything like the same gen S4s, they'll be awful on longer trips.

Not so sure about S4's, but 300mile trips in mine are a lot more comfortable than the vRS seats ever were, and the lumbar is much more supportive.

Mind you, one thing we're not taking into account here is physical size/build of the occupants. S3's are perfect for me, and I'm only 5ft 6 1/2", and medium build.

But then again, Luca prefers the S3 seat, and he's a much bigger lad than I (no offense buddy...)

My verdict in owning 3 of the four sets

This is only my opinion :D

vRS seats

Comfortable and look good

Lack support and not easy to keep clean

S3 Seats

Very comfortable and look very good

Very heavy

MKiv Recaro's

Very comfortable and look perfect in the octy

The s3 are more adjustable and would suit the more relaxed bodies

The set I had were too worn for me. I didn't need the electrics as i very rarely adjust the seat so unnecessarily heavy too

The back seats looks like after they designed the really nice fronts they just gave up and threw some foam and leather in the back.

The only thing i miss on them is the leg adjustment as im 6'5.

The mkiv's offer (me) more support and I think they look much better front and back in the octavia.

And the leather is very similiar to the S3's but do admit its not as good.

PS I DIDNT CALL ANYONE FAT!

I'm going to miss my MkIV Recaros- most comfortable car seats I've ever had. The S3 ones I couldn't get on with. Plus they weigh the same as the car!

The rear seats on the MkIV Recaros are also slightly bucketed, which looks and feels great, and they came on 5-doors so can be had without the handle to get in the back... useful!

r32 rears are like that too, they are really a 4 seater as the middle is a lap strap. they were a lot nicer to sit in too. but lets face it how often do you sit in the back of your own car? I dont even like passangers in her lol, appart from the wife (to be)

thing I didnt like with them tho was:

They look similar to the mkiv's just without the armrest. That gap is because they are from a 3 door car I hated that on the s3's only something simple but it's the small things that bother me. The Mkiv I have now are from a 4 door so that gap isn't as big.

Can you post a pic of the gap with the 5 door seats? I've got Mk4 seats from a 3 door and I don't like the gap either.

They were from a 5 door mate my fronts have no handles neither. That was a must for them. Norhing that looks like its out of place

Can some of you different seat boys give me a bit of advice?

I just got some S3 seats that just arrived today, but I noticed something and I'm puzzled.

On the front vRS seats the two bolts are in the seat and you just have to loosen the two nuts to remove.

On the S3 seats there's no bolts, just the holes where the bolts would go. Is that right?

If so, how do I bolt them in?

You need to get the bolts for the seats they work the opposite to nut that the Octavia seats use. You should be able to get them out of any Audi I think.

Are you sure it's not just the slider has moved backwards ?
