1.2 dsg

Featured Replies

Is anyone out there running a 1.2 tsi octavia with dsg.

I'm looking at replacing my estate and notice that there are several 2011 1.2 dsg's at Skoda dealers around the country, all with similar reg numbers so they're no doubt ex hire cars, but not many manuals.

I only want a basic "S" spec estate. Most of the time it will be running fairly lightly loaded and on short journeys so I'm happy that the 105bhp is fine.

I would be interested in real world experience of this engine, particularly with a dsg.

cheers

I can't speak for how it performs n an Octavia, but that's the engine/gearbox combo I have in my other car, a 2012 VW Polo 1.2TSI. 3,000 trouble-free kms completed thus far and my impressions to date are that it's an absolute peach of a combination. Peppy, free-revving engine, a deceptively quick car, with a beautifully smooth, almost imperceptible gear change that occurs very quickly, with sports mode and full manual if you need it.

Now, I wonder what that engine would be like in the substantially bigger and heavier Octavia?

Cheers Simon, sounds promising.

After two 1.9pd Octavias I'm wary of changing. On paper the 1.2 petrol is very similar......

My current car stil runs fine at 120k miles, but its showing its age with some annoying rattles and creaks. Also as it still has the original DMF and Turbo, its a ticking time bomb !

It will be very different to your PD diesels. It won't have that oomph of torque. However the DSG box really does help to get the most out of these engines and make them very relaxing to drive for such a small engine.

If you're not doing many miles a year and you're not bothered about another diesel then this is probably a good choice of engine/gearbox.

In terms of it in the octavia.

The octavia is around 170kg heavier than the fabia so it would be like owning a fabia and driving round with 2 people in the car. I think, however, the Octavia is more aerodynamic than the fabia which could also explain why the top speed in the Fabia is 117mph and 119mph in the octavia.

It certainly isn't underpowered for the size of the car and will still shift and give decent MPG.

Mines done 14000miles and only average 36mpg, unless you are racing all the time the car is more then capable to keep up with traffic and a bit more. I am happy with mine and havnt wish i gone for a bigger engine, The refinement is excellant and on idle all you heard is the ventilation fan,

I have to say that the 2012 Leon 1.2 TSI i drove for a week felt massivley underpowered and the Leon is smaller and lighter than the Octy. I do prefer cars with a bit of grunt though. In 420 miles i got 43.4mpg doing a combination of town/country driving. But my god was it a slow creature.

I have driven a new 1.6tdi which felt very sluggish compared to the PD. The common rail engine is a lot more refined but I found myself flooring the throttle to get any progress out of it. I had thought I would be replacing the current 1.9pd with a 1.6 but having tried one I'd rather save a few grand and get a petrol model.

From what I've read elswhere it sounds like the dsg is well suited to the 1.2 and 1.4 tsi engines.
