Hello from Dudley

Featured Replies

Hi all, I'm Ian from Dudley in the West Midlands. I'm actually the co-founder and magazine editor of the Zastava Yugo Owners Club but being a fan of all East European cars I've just bought a Skoda Favorit which I'm planning to use as my daily driver. Its a 1995 GLXIE with a genuine 36k miles on the clock, full service history, all MOT certificates and around £4500 worth of service and repair invoices for work carried-out since new.

The car is in good overall condition apart from some rust to the lip of the nearside rear arch and the door side mouldings are lifting. It drives really well and I can't believe how economical it is on fuel. Acceleration isn't particularly smooth from a light throttle but I'm guessing all the emissions stuff doesn't help. Also, in spite of the service history there is no record of the fuel filter ever having been replaced so thats a job for the weekend.

I'm not familiar with the Favorit although I have owned an Estelle previously. The engine seems a little harsh to me when revved beyond about 3500rpm but maybe they all are. It also sounds like the engine is inside the passenger compartment so I'm guessing a bulkhead grommet may be missing although I can't see anything. The gear linkage also seems to transmit noise into the car but again, perhaps they all do. I'm judging it against the superbly engineered Yugo after all... ;)

Anyway, thats me, hope to catch-up with some of you soon.

Ian

Welcome! ..... Your car sounds great and I'm sure you'll have it ship-shape soon :)

I had a 1986 Yugo 311, back in 1991 ......... a great little car and that used to run on fresh air! B)
