Boot popper not working properly

Featured Replies

Hello

Has anyone had problems with the boot open button on the key? Car is a 2011 hatch.

On holding the button down the boot Poppy's up a little but stays partly latched. This confuses the car and means I have to puch the boot closed again and unlock it normally... Or am I doing something wrong?

Mine does that too (2007 hatch). If you unlock it and lift quickly, it'll be open. If you unlock too far away, you can hear the motor rewind and you have to squeeze the handle to complete opening. I think several people have had the same thing. Doesn't sound like it's a VCDS-fix type thing either.

could it need stronger lifting struts maybe?

My MY10 hatch does this also.

Try adjusting the rubber bumpers so they are longer. Then it will pop out a bit further.

Mine works intermittently, irrespective of distance from car when button pressed. TBH can't be bothered returning to the dealer as such intermittent faults invariably take forever to diagnose/fix.

AH, the distance from the car only makes a difference in so far as : if you're standing right beside it you can pop'n'lift. If you're further away, unless you have long arms, pop'n'lift isn't an option ;)

Isn't that normal?

Mine has been like that from new (07). Pop with the key you need to lift up pressing the button under the lip of the boot.

I thought the option to open with the key was just to save having to unlock then relock the car since it locks automatically when you shut the boot.

..... since it locks automatically when you shut the boot.

And locks your keys in the boot as well if you are not careful. Never use it myself.

whats wrong with Unlock press the boot release button under the reg.. taaddaaaa :)

It's the same on my 2011 model. I think it could be a safety measure in case the button is pressed inadvertently thus leaving the boot open and vulnerable.

Mac

Im sure somebody has coded this through vcds to keep the motor open long enough for springs fitted to the struts to lift it like a passat

That's normal - it's on a time delay I think - if after popping you don't lift within a couple of seconds it relatches itself at a halfway point so you have to press the botton above the reg plate to oopen it. If you then don't do this in a further few seconds I think it locks itself, but only at the halfway point.

I'm pretty certain it is a safety and security thing - stops you driving off with an unlatched boot and keeps the car secure if you pop the boot by accident.
