1 weekend and 2 very different 4x4's make 1 fully working sorted steath octavia

Featured Replies

Ok so I already had a std 4x4 turbo estate and covered 119k of which the last 5k running stg2 revo software and did a full DG service (had full service history when I got it) but removed all the crud not needed on the 20VT setup so buy buy secondary air pump and tidied up all the vac pipe work.

All was fine but clutch was dead…well has been for about 2k miles and towing was getting more difficult

Also had a coolant leak form somewhere and wheel bearing needed changing

Purchased a modded 4x4 saloon and ran both for a few weeks but it had its fair share of issues once I had time to look at it properly (kind of purchased it without really jacking up and getting serious) anyway found the knocks were most of the ball joints / rack ends / play in ARB bushes and boost leak, driveshaft leak, gear lever mech difficult to select, blowing exhaust / turbo / manifold

Anyway somehow ended up deciding I prefer the estate version more than the saloon for looks and practical reasons and proceeded to swap the bits over……more work than you would think

So the estate now has the following;

Original 119k engine with repaired coolant leak (found hairline fracture in a hard plastic coolant connector)

Gearbox with VRS ratios – VR6 flywheel and new clutch & cover

Poly bushed wishbones and new outer ball joints & steering rack ends

New power steering pipework from pump to rack (was leaking)

Forge I/C with further tweaks to make it fit better (was not the greatest install originally tbh)

Flush and new coolant

Oil change

Power steering fluid change

Larger oe discs / carriers and pagid spec pads up front and oe rears

Brake fluid / clutch fluid flush and racing dot 4 fluid in

Neuspeed 25mm front ARB and poly bush fitted

Neuspeed 22mm rear ARB and poly bushes fitted

Full blue flame exhaust fitted and removed rear tailpipe and welded 45deg 2.5inch bend to keep the original exhaust exit setup and not modding rear bumper

Leon Cupra full set of seat and VRS trim from dash

VRS steering wheel

VRS front bumper

Diesel sound deadening under bonnet

Cabononi air intake kit

Short shift on box (works great after aligning the shift mech up correctly)

Gearbox oil change

Swapped wheels over so got the 16 inch TT items

So need to finish the last few bits for the rear end tonight and get the geo setup and then really need to find a local tinter to sort the rear windows out (dog in boot and child more than looks :)) and fit the haldex blue at the weekend if not before and should be fine for a while other than sorting the rear screen which only a few lines work and rust issue showing (maybe the VRS boot spoiler?)

The longer ratios have def took the sting out of its low down performance but does give me more like 35mpg over the original 30mpg so worth it alone for that

Saloon going back to a more std setup and not sure what to do atm as have too much on so its in the garage all safe ;)

So there we go had planned nothing and 2 days later the estate is a lot fruitier than it started and ready to ferry the family round and tow to a few tracks over the summer. I never took any pictures during the full strip / rebuild as there is nothing over exciting to see but will maybe get a few pics up when finished

Maybe if the race car is at Spa this year I will detour to the ring and see what time it flows round just so I can put a sticker on the boot (these are the rules)

Very interesting project / weekend  I know you didn't take any during the work, but any chance of any photos of your car now? B)

Of course will take a few when I get time ;)

Oh and top / bottom strut braces fitted (neuspeed items again)

Was VERY VERY VERY tempting to dropping a spare S3 tfsi lump in and make it a very rapid car but alas it needs to go in the VX220 turbo it was purchased for and could not justify the cost of another one for the octavia :(

Really need to finish project work and my own other cars which makes spending money and time on the 4x4 difficult to justify - at least the k03s is a responsive little bugger and 220ish bhp enough to safely overtake and tow. Feel very slow compares to the 620ish bhp per ton track beastie :D but then that is undrivable in the wet and the skoda love it :D

good work realy want to see it, pic's please?

How hard would it be to fit a FWD vRS with the 4x4 octavia system?

Prob easier to transfer the bits you want onto a 4x4 setup tbh - want to buy a saloon :D lol

Will get some pics but it was dark when I got an hr free on it last night and need to adjust the trailing arm bush level for the shorter springs. Hope to do the geo wed or thu

Will look a lot better when the windows are tinted, maybe I will bolt on the race logic box to get some stats although cant see it been lower than 6secs to 60 in fact prob nearer 7 LOL
