A pillar Trim and roof lining removal

Featured Replies

Morning Peoples, Before i started aimlessly pulled Betty's trim off I thought I'd ask you guys if there is a special way to remove the A pillar trim.

The reason being that I want to mount my Tom Tom under the Rear View mirror as the current mounting point at the bottom of the A pillar is a nightmare in the sun due to glare. and i want to route the power cable behind the drivers side a pillar and across the headlining.

Advise on the best way to remove the trim would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks in advance

I managed to route power to my camera mounted up there without removing the trim, just eased the cable in under it and again tucked it under the headlining

thanks for that...will give that a go

If the Yeti is like most cars now the headlining will be a complete bar steward to release and you will NEVER get it back again properly!

Plus a warning, some Police Forces are now getting "picky" about things stuck on screens, especially if they consider it may be obscuring the view....................................

Yeah - including RFL's? :)

Best tell Skoda to dispense with the really handy ticket holder too?

I hate having anything stuck on the screen but needs must, but I will be attaching it to the screen on the hatched glass section to the left of the rear view mirror and the satnav will be under and to the left of the review mirror. So doubt it will restrict the view much.

I've not committed to this yet so it might change. I might even put it above the rear view mirror. All a case of trail and error!!!

Well the Excise licence disc is not deemed to be in the relevant area of the screen, plus it's position in the bottom left hand corner is a Statutory position, and secondly you shouldn't leave anything in the ticket holder if it obscures your view.

Certainly the one Police Force I know have been doing this have used the MOT "pattern" to check.

I hope your bobby never catches you with a dirty windscreen, then - as large areas of the screen remain unswept by the wipers

A bit of common sense is all that's needed - which I'd hazard a guess is present in abundance amongst members here?

I know someone who was succesfully prosecuted for a dirty windscreen, and he went to the Magistrates Court to argue about it (and lost)!!

A farmer got done for a dirty windscreen near to us when we lived in West Wales. It's been illegal for a long time to have stuff on the windscreen or dangling off the rear view mirror.

The A pillar trim just clips on and off if you lever it gently. I have had mine off to fit the TomTom aerial underneath.

Much better to fit the TomTom in the top dashboard storage. Advice on here somewhere how to wire it in, but I just take the wire out and drape it down to the power point. The unit is out of the way and with some jucicious packing of the hinges with rubber, the lid only opens just enough to fold up the unit from its flat storage position, and forms an excellant sunshade.

I took out the rubber mat, decided where the mounting cup should be and drilled four holes around it, then strapped it in with ties pulled tight. The aerial exits through a small hole also in the base and goes to the passenger pillar under the dash and behind the trim, taped to the wires behind.

(You need to take the unit out to get access as you have to drill from underneath, as the lid is in the way. It is then obvious where to tape some rubber spacers into the hinge to restrict lid opening.

I have then made a new custon bottom mat to go around the fixing cup. When the vehicle goes back to the lease company, I will put the original mat back in top cover the holes, remove the spacers and no on will notice it was used for anything else.

See "Skoda Yeti Technical Guides" and the Sat Nav Top Box installation here. You can also install a USB charging socket here also......................Hope this helps - Tony

Having tested it today, back to the drawing board. Not happy with the placement under the review mirror,it just doesn't feel natural compared tohaving it on the a pillar like i currently have.

Just need to find a way to stop the screen acting like a mirror.

Did see the top box idea, I've tried this but as I use the storage for my fuel reciepts, tolls etc this is a none starter also.

Back to the drawing board

What i don't understand is why I never had this issue on the mondeo with the sat nav in exactly the same position.

Thanks for that, been there and tried that, didn't work. The glare is still present. It's more of a reflection glare.

I'm guessing it is to do with the mirror like finish to my TomTom Go 720.

May have to invest in a screen protector to see if this resolves it.

It's anoyying!

I have a Talex GPS device sitting at the foot of the A pillar - a really natural place to have it - that I use as a reasonably accurate digital speedometer. However, I too have problems with reflections obliterating the display which at times is totally unreadable. I haven't yet solved it, but I'm firmly of the opinion that it's actually bright light shining on my clothing being reflected in the screen of the device that's the problem.

I intend to fit a screen protector but haven't yet found a properly matte one to try, or at least I can't find a small one that doesn't involve cutting into a full size laptop screen protector.

John Keep me posted on your results. I've decided to leave it on the A-pillar best place for it.

I'm trying it as low as possible to see if I can find a way of reducing the glare.

Least i'm not on my own

This sunshine and bright light of which you speak.......what are they? It's been raining more or less non stop for the last 5 weeks.
