Dog Guard

Featured Replies

I remember reading on here somewhere about dog guards but cant find the thread so apologise to probably rehash this question.

I need to put a dog guard in my urban (picking it up tomorrow) but I want one that will allow me to keep the parcel shelf in. Is there one???

Thanks in advance.

I recently got the Travall one.

Decent quality and very sturdy. I put the parcel shelf back in. It does not clip back in perfectly and is an absolute bitch to get back in since the Yeti's hatch is narrower than the parcel shelf! Doh. But works a treat once in. It rests slightly higher at the hinges but you don't notice it.

I got the official Skoda one when I bought my Yeti. Very well designed and sturdy. Was supposed to be "fitted" by the dealer but they left the parcel shelf loose in the boot. Shelf needed two small cuts with a jigsaw to get it to fit back properly (not nice taking a jigsaw to your brand new pride and joy but I wasn't going to let the dealer touch the car again by that stage!) but it does now rest where it is supposed to, properly on the hinges. Almost impossible to take the shelf out with the dog guard in place (I've managed it once!) so I just leave it in place all the time!

Does that mean the poor dogs are in the dark?

Does that mean the poor dogs are in the dark?

I was thinking this myself...

My only consideration was that they are night hunter dogs that aren't allowed sunlight, or breathing space, but still doesn't seem quite right...

Because of this I went for a cage!, means I still have some boot space left!

RSPCA not required! We use the dog guard to restrain luggage, the dog travels on the back seat between the kids in a harness and belted in! She did travel in the boot when I removed the parcel shelf (I kept it out for about 2 months as it was so awkward to put back!). She's a Border Terror so a good size for travelling in the car.

Sounds nasty!

I don't use a dog guard!

I ordered a central headrest with my Yeti Greenline (standard onhigher specs) and keep all 3 fully extended - this provides an effective barrier for my Springer Spaniel. I have retrofitted a spare wheel with the higher boot floor so he sits with a 360 degree view on our frequent 700 mile trips to the south of France. No complaints yet - and no attempts to join me in the front!

I have just installed the Travall dog guard referred to by Johann and had the problem he refers to with the rear cover not fitting quite properly. I overcame this by taking the guard out and reversing all of the feet(?) and putting the guard in the other way round. This results in the 2 tubes that the hold down rods go through being at the front rather than the back of the lower cross piece and the screw up knobs are then out of the way of the rear cover which now clips in place correctly. The only negative result is the opening for the middle rear seat belt is on the wrong side, but as it is extremely unlikely that I will ever have 3 passengers in the rear I can live it.

My labrador sits in the dark under the parcel shelf, he is much calmer when travelling than when he could see out the windows in the Audi, the children drop the middle seat arm rest thing to check on him.

No problem.
