Got a insurance quote on a Fabia vRS Mk1 at 18

Featured Replies

Just got an insurance quote on a Fabia vRS with declared new set of wheels, splitter and a re-map for £1400!

At 18 with a years no claims can't complain at all, now just to find one!

That's actually not bad!

What are you paying on the current car?

Phil

Presumably not comprehensive? Bargain if it is! And what's the excess?!

Often you find TPFT will cost more than comprehensive

I was paying £1500 in the same si****ion 5 years ago, so vary good quote indeed!

That cannot be fully comp in your own name etc! And if it is, that's a bloody good quote!

What's the annual milage allowance, excess and have you said its kept in a garage?

Sounds very cheap

have you got both parents on it? as that brings mine down by over a grand.... and that really isnt bad, im around £1000 on my mums Mk1 VRS and thats 19 and 2 years no claims....

TPFT frequently costs very similar to fully comp in many instances these days (I had TPFT insurance exclusively until I got the vRS 18 months ago), although it is always worth checking. Best way to bring down a quote for a young driver is to whack the voluntary excess up, so the total excess is at least 350 and more ideally 500, then pop some over-40s (ideally 50+) on with clean licences and 5 years accident free.

Anyway, that's still a stonking quote, when I was 18 with 1 years NCB I was still paying about £750 iirc for a 60 bhp £500 Clio on TPFT. You're not fronting are you?

that is like for free. Which company is that? as I'm 18 and looking for insurance.

This is really not meant to p33 on a Parade, just being realistic.

(I have been a Boy Racer and now have Children and Grand Children Boy Racers, so learned the hard way)

Quotes are always nice,

but its down to the proof of the pudding and the actual 'Premium'

when the 'Declaration sheet' for mods of a vehicle being driven by under 24's gets seen by an Underwritter that really matters,

Thats if the are Main Driver or Named driver or Shared Driver.

Written Quotes after all the details are known is the only policy worth the paper its written on,

Quotes given on a Proposers saying 'Re-mapped' is worth a few questions before you consider yourself with Insurance Cover'

Because they will want Details and dont believe stuff over the phone being spouted like

'as long as it is only a 20% power increase, they are OK' with it..

I'm on a modified car policy with Graham Sykes insurance and they did ask me the details of the re-map, they do work out the quotes properly as it took them a day to get back to me with it

It's kept on a driveway overnight and it's in my own name, only me on the policy etc and it's TPFT, I think fully comp is only another £95 so may just go for that

Hunker who were you talking to re. Insurance company?

If you have your Dad named as the main driver you are on V dodgy ground if you have claim and the Ins Co claim you are really the main driver - Insurance could be deemed invalid. Best case scenario - you write your car off and claim is refused. Worst case - you are deemed responsible for an accident in which someone is badly hurt and need life long care - Insurance is deemed invalid and you are sued for mega bucks. Is it worth the risk?

If they find out and cancel your policy, their dad wont be happy when he struggles to get insurance again either.

Having a 19 year old lad I do understand the financial burden that insurance brings and when he researches quotes he regards 1000 to 1500 quid as cheap as chips. To him it is but tbh I still struggle to get my head round paying out that! However to qualify he's already been involved in a multi vehicle accident and most of his mates have had accidents of varying nature, so perhaps some, not all, are their own worst enemy!

For some reason it was 2 grand cheaper to have me as the main driver on mine rather than my dad and they couldnt explain why when we asked them about it :S

The reason i dont 'Front' for my kids came after my son crashed driving on a Trade Policy & wrote off a New car.(that was not mine)

They went the whole dinger,

Fuel Reciepts etc, written statements and sworn statements & i paid in full for 2 damaged cars.

When the suspect fronting and a named driver being the Main driver,

commuting or going to college and not parking where the Proposer said, or overnight at the post code given,

they then do the whole bit on Fuel Receipts, mileages covered by the Main Driver in their main vehicle and the 'Wife/Partners' second vehicle that junior is named on etc.

My 19 year old son pays over 2 grand for a 1.0 polo post code plays a big part in it.

i am not the main driver my dad is. Once my points go then i will be on my own. But at the moment because i was an idiot im not allowed to be the main driver. I already have a poor lisence, lying on my insurence wouldnt be the best idea lol

where do you live?

why?

No problem then if the car is genuinely you dads and you are an occasional user. Issues will arise if your Dad is also main driver on another car or the Octy is registered in your name or as said above the Ins co investigates and finds you have been paying the bulk of the fuel and maintenance bills. - not trying to be picky just trying to make sure all are safe and doing the right thing

why?

Insurance rates are post code based - Chance of a claim are much great in a run down area than they are in a remote rural area.
