Vrs - Rs

Featured Replies

Odd ..... Been wasting time on ins sites

My car comes up a RS on some

A Vrs on others

Or a bloody elegance lol

What is the whole RS, Vrs thing ? Or is it just the same car ??????

Same car, Skoda could not use 'RS' on its cars, particularly in the UK, because Ford have used it for their performance branding for years and so the 'vRS' was born.

Same car. Originally it was called the RS but it was then changed to vRS. Think it was for legal reasons but not 100%.

Just peeked and on the log book it does sau RS ??

Some peeps on here have had their VRS come up as a Diesel from what i can remember

The 'v' is the small 'v' above 'S' in SKODA, (CZ)

only really said in the UK,

'SKODA vRS' it is said as 'SKODA RS' elsewhere

My friends Rs he bought according to the dvla was an ambiente tdi! Registered on the logbook and everything. So some people/the dvla are indeed very thick.

the V stands for Victory. Ford and Skoda went to court over the RS name as Skoda actually used it first. but ford copyrighted the name in the UK. Skoda won the fight about ownership but as Ford copyrighted it in the UK. Skoda had to ad the V to get round it. The V has also been said to be Skoda sticking there fingers up at ford! :finger: :moon:

The RS badge was first on a Porka back in the 50s or 60s i think standing for "Race Sport".. So really Porsche were "the first" to run the whole RS thing.

Personally, i think it means, Very Rapid Skoda. :giggle:

Mines a very red skoda :D

Or just a red skoda on the logbook lol

lol @ very red skoda! you do crack me up Lloyd

RS = Rennsport or racing, in English.

Also, it sounds cool :giggle:

I can't find any reference to the whole Ford/Skoda spat... Google pretty much brings up Briskoda posts, and other forums linking to Briskoda post! But I'm sure someone can find some sort of other reference to it.

if anything, it's more likely to be due to the way the R and S are joined along the bottom (same on vRS and RS) than purely about the "RS" name itself. This would fall under trademark infringement, since the join along the bottom is fairly recognisable as a Ford badge.

Of course, there are many other cars, even for sale in the UK, that use the RS badge... Audi RS3/4/5/6, Porshce GT3 RS...
