Tackling a leaky windscreen on Felicia

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Right then, i've read on here this is a common problem on the felicia and one way to sort it is to have the screen removed and resealed. Apparently this was done on our car just before we bought it but still leaks. Now as we're only using the car as a stop gap while our vw van is having a lot of work done, we don't wanna spend money having screen removed etc but do wanna stop this leak if we can with sealants etc. Only seems to be leaking into the passenger side footwell. I've removed the carpet and underlay soundproof stuff. The carpet was dry but the underlay was soaked! Thats all on the washing line drying and have mopped up the water in the car. It had rained hard last night and there was fresh water in the passenger footwell and on the plastic side panel where your left foot would be so i'm assuming its coming in on that corner.

Would i be best tackling this leak with sealant from the outside under the scuttle panel, or should i remove the dash and seal on the inside???

I know this will take time but i like tinkering and would rather spend time on the car myself and not have to spend money on it. I don't wanna sell it on (even though it will be MEGA cheap) with a leak like this really.

Cheers for any input!

Mark :)

Sealant won't do it. Search for a post by felicia16v on here about it, you'll find the solution, drilling a small hole in the scuttle (in the area where the seal is) to allow it to drain. He's -the- man when it comes to this....

Hiya. a couple of months ago I found a puddle in the passenger side footwell, and as the missus vehemently denied any responsibility, I assumed the windscreen was leaking. A quick run of regular silicon sealer around the windscreen fixed the problem... perhaps the problem is more detailed with your own screen, but the sealant certainly made a difference with mine- best of luck,

Well i've been out today armed with a huge tube of sealant which can be applied in water too (according to the packet!). Anyway, i lifted the outer edge of the rubber up and put liberal amounts in around the whole screen. I thin lifted the inner edge of the rubber up and did the same, so its sealed where it meets the bodywork and where it meets the glass. Then about an hour later it rained loads!!! So far there is no water in the car at all! So fingers crossed its cured. When i removed the scuttle panel, i found someone had used some weather proof tape along the bottom edge of the screen but this had come away on the passenger side where the water was leaking in. I removed all this to seal with the sealant. Scraped a lot of old broken up sealant out of the rubber too.

Its just started raining again here so i've parked the car on the kerb so water will flow to the passenger side of the screen, so we'll see if theres water in there in the morning. The carpets are all out drying so its easier to see if any water gets in. Before i put sealant on, when it rained you could watch the water running in onto the floor! Without removing the dash i couldn't see where exactly it was coming in hence why i sealed the whole screen!

Cheers for the replies. I'll search for that thread anyway just in case this hasn't cured my problem. :)

^ Fingers crossed you've resolved mate.

Well, the leaky windscreen is sorted!!!! i've poured buckets of water over the car and its rained and dry as a bone inside!!! Only a slight leak still remains on the drivers side now...this is coming in at the bottom of the drivers door seal. Seems to collect on the rubber above the sill and work its way inside the car onto the floor. Shouldn't be too hard to fix this one...i hope! :p
