2 year service plugs and air filter

Featured Replies

My 1.8 scout is due for its 2 year service. Can anyone tell me if the plugs and air filter will be replaced ?

Ta !

I had second year service at main dealers and mine wasnt. I did have a brake fluid change though.

Cheers. Was the brake fluid part of the service ?

Can't help with the plugs but in the Haynes (diesel) it says air filter every 60,000 (can't imagine the petrol is any different but its frankly a ridiculous ammount, wouldn't even let it go half that TBH) and brake fluid is every 2 years (regardless of miles).

It wasnt part of the service but i did get a phone call to say they 'advise' a brake fluid change at this time. I paid an addtional £19.49 for this.

Air filter is changed every 6 years or 60,000 miles - whichever occurs first. Brake fluid first change is at 3 years then every 2 years.

Most car manufacturers recommend 2 year brake fluid change as the fluid can absorb water over that period of time. It is interesting to note the previous post indicating Skoda are changing this to 3 years for the first change and then 2 years thereafter. I assume this applies to all Octavias and makes one wonder if this is to appease the Fleet/Rental guys to reduce their costs over 3 years - or has there really been a new development in brake fluid? And if so, why isn't the 3 year renewal period continued after the first change?

If all dealers only charge £20 for a brake fluid change, then whether its 2 or 3 years is not really as big costing issue.
