Shell V-Power Diesel - Worse than FuelSave?

Featured Replies

From a wiki?

Fair enough, but Certainly in a PD140, I found it gave worse MPG.

The BP didn't give worse MPG, but IMHO couldn't justify the extra cost.

This is where I got my info from, which contradicts Wikipedia.

Seat Cupra.net - Shell FuelSave Diesel - Page 3

What's the essence of those 4 long pages... ? (soz, lazy mode)

I basicily give the link for this email responce from shell.

"Craig,

For Fuelsave diesel Cetane is guaranteed 51 typically 55-58

For V-power diesel Cetane is guaranteed 51 typically 53-55; The benefits of V-power are not derived from the cetane rating.

Regards,

Rob."

So Fuelsave has a higher cetane number than V-power. And higher speed (i.e. modern) diesels run more efficiently with a higher cetane fuel, so would this be where the "1 extra litre" comes from?

@op

Filled up for the first time with hell vpower & it smelt like millers to me :drunk:

Personally I find different cars/engines like different fuels. I'm certain you could grab 20 cars straight from the factory, and all would favour different fuels/brands. Personally tried the Octavia on premium fuel, before using normal octane and finding better MPG.

My personal attitude is to find a fuel, on which your car runs satisfactory for you, at a price you're happy with paying rather than the marketing guff or what the mass consensus is you should use.

With you on that one gman. We used to have blokes at work who swore blind that their Ford Vans ran better on the dearer BP diesel. Never noticed it myself. And I've never noticed any difference between BP diesel/Morrisons city diesel and the rest in mine. Only difference has been the price. And always had looks of amazement from the MOT man on the emmissions front.

I normally use v-power diesel. I run the Yeti until it is almost empty.

Recently I had to use fuel save as v-power wasn't available.

I regularly go up a fairly steep hill, which is close to home and I use it most days.

I discovered that the Yeti would not go up it in 4th gear like it normally did, but stayed in 3rd. It was like this for the whole tank full.

I then filled up using v-power, and the car then went up the same hill in very similar conditions in 4th gear (it chooses what gear it wants to being a DSG  )

I even went up the same hill slower with swmbo and our luggage for a long weekend away and it still went up in 4th.

Based on that, I know that using v-power the car produces more torque.
