Worth the money?

Featured Replies

Hi

I've been looking at a monte Carlo in white,

The deal as follows...

PCP

9000 miles pa

Duration 42 months

41 payments of 206.71

Deposit 1000

Retail cash price 12995

Acceptance fee 125

Optional final payment 5602.50

Option to purchase fee 60

Total amount payable 15137.61

Total amount of credit 11995

Representative apr 7.1%

Rate of interest 6.43%

Now I've never taken anything out on finance before, bought my last car in cash (Clio 182) 3 years ago and now have a company car which is a c3 1.4 hdi. But I've only ever had French cars and fancy something nice to look at but not overly costly to run

I was told I am getting the following extras

Full tank of diesel

Spare wheel

Mats

Tax for a year, only £20 anyway!

3 years servicing

Is this a good deal? I'm a bit hesitant about 42 months, as I'll have to MOT it! And for the sake of being even, much prefer 10000 pa.

Anyway let me know what you think as if I could or you have, done better

Thanks and hi :)

It's in white which I'm not instantly taken to, do you guys think they look good in it?

I didn't instantly think WOW! my girlfriend was the opposite and wants to buy it now!

I have a Red one - same engine. It's a brilliant car (I'm a serial Skoda owner - Octy, Superb, now Fabia and driven my Dad's 1.2 TSI DSG - Monte aces it). The deal looks good - mine was more per month and over 5 years, but it isn't a PCP to buy back at the end. I guess it depends on

1) your annual mileage.

2) If you can afford the monthly payment.

3) Do you want to buy it back.

Etc.

Great thanks we aren't really interested in keeping it as split down the middle it's only 100 each really which is nothing. Plus my insurance for me and er as named 300 compared to 800 on the clio 182! Is performance decent? I'm getting a test drive on Saturday

Well, it's relative - don't compare the diesel to how I imagine the Renault is (2.0 16v rev happy, power at the top). It has grunt enough for me to drive quickly on my 40 mile route to work and dispatch most traffic. If you're used to diesel from your company Citroen, just think more power and torque...

I find the gear shift good and the ride and handling reassuring. While I wanted to buy myself something bordering on silly (2nd car, not-quite-mid-life-crisis, quick, etc) I opted for the Monte as it was quick(ish), cheap(ish), solid and almost sensible!

Yeah I'm done with revving hard everywhere I'd prefer strong power between 20-60 as the Clio was only fun once you were well into trouble with the rules of the road :)

Thanks for the info looking forward to having a go

Still love mine after 12 months (in red) and it gets lots of admiring comments. TDI 105 is just enough to feel nippy rather than quick. The deal looks like mine did , likely standard Skoda finance. Also road tax is free in the first year , only £20 in following years.

You can get the same car for £900 less from drivethedeal.com, which will be exactly the same finance package, so works out to be about £190 per month. Haggle harder, you could say that you like the car etc, but your top line is £190 per month.

Thanks for that, I'll be in on Saturday and will try to haggle them down!

Just specced it with maxidot (what is it?) cruise and reverse beepers, 150000 miles an it was 211 a month

Thanks for the heads up

Maxidot gives you a much nicer display with a proper needle fuel guage and temperature guage. The LCD readout is black with white lettering which looks much better (think the stock is still green/black) and gives slightly more information than the standard trip computer.

with a pcp you do not have to keep it for 42 months you can trade it in for another one. I do pcp over 42 months and change about 24 months to 36 months sometimes it may ad about £5 pm on my payments so no mot and the dealer gets a car with some waranty. One day i will go to the end of the pcp and buy outright mybe my next one (vrs) PCP off skoda is 10000 pa.

Also not a fan of PCP.

For that mileage the 86 hp or 105 hp petrol is more fun, cheaper and not a lot less mpg in the real world for that sort of mileage

Love the Fabia but handling is a bit dodgy if pushed very hard.

Octy deals are amazing at the moment and tempted by them.

Skoda1982, how does that work trading it in? I'm very new to PCP as a concept do I don't know the ins and outs.

I have done it 3 times. The interest is high at the begining of the pcp but as you make payments the interest gets less you only pay interest on the loan. wot you are paying is the depresation of the car plus interest. The other £5000 is wot you pay at the end. If the car is worth £6000 trade in at the end you can take £1000 and walk away. Trade in so the £1000 becomes a deposit on a new one Or get another loan for £4000 and buy the car. if you think about it a 42 month old car for £4000. when you trade in during a pcp you get a final balance £5000 plus wot you owe say £2000 so thats £7000 if the car is worth £6500 trade in £500 goes onto your next cars pcp that is negative equity. or pay the £500. if the car is worth £7500. £500 less on your next pcp

A pcp is not hp.

Its hard to explain writing

You can get a pcp on used or new cars

Sorry, but the above is wrong. The reason dealers/manufacturers love PCP so much is because you pay interest on the WHOLE amount. That 5k balloon payment is like an interest only loan for the term of the PCP, whether you pay it off or not.
