Yeti configurer adds 16inch wheel option

Featured Replies

I see The Plumber has already given you names - if not available try Shelly Lynch, Customer Service Manager Executive Office, I worked with her to get the 16" Moon alloys on my new Yeti 1.2 Tsi DSG, she was efficient and helpful and there were no problems at all. Even kept me updated on build date etc.

I can confirm Mark Fox and Shelly Lynch as the helpful Customer Relations people at Skoda UK who contacted me about my own request for 16" wheels

Do you have email addresses for them? Or does it have to be a phone call? If so, do you have a phone number.

I'm very grateful for your help and advice.

My own initial approach was via email. Others may have phoned.

Mikespike - phone number for Skoda UK is 0845 7745745 (ask for Shelly Lynch or direct e-mail [email protected]) might be better to e-mail as a starter to explain exactly what you want - 16" Moon Alloys fitted with 215 60 R16 tyres to replace standard 17" alloys - I assume. She will want to know the dealer you are ordering through and the name of your contact there. Generally Skoda UK contacts the dealer and sorts everything out.

Let us know how you get on.

Hey! Easy, guys? Think about it! SUK have moved!

All sorts of reasons why the option only shows for the SE at the moment. Perhaps the chap updating the Configuratoriser only had time to do that bit before the factory hooter went. Perhaps a trickle-down on the computer didn't work. Perhaps they only told the chap who does the SE bit - the S and SE+ chaps don't work on a Wednesday. Perhaps.

The main thing is that the zero-cost option is now officially on the pricelist. Result. Even if the SE chap doesn't remember that he only did half a job, even if the IT man doesn't put the computer right tomorrow, even if the S and SE+ chaps don't get the message, there's still something official on paper (well, sort of) as good case basis for 16" wheels (and, don't forget, tyres!) on anything now.

So I think a vote of thanks is due to Robert Hazlewood, Mark Fox and/or whoever at SUK for listening, and for eventually taking action, however belatedly. We can sort out the fine print later.

The congratulations all round were premature. Just a few days later any reference on the Skoda website to the 16" wheels being an option for the Yeti SE have disappeared. I suspect that it was simply a website error which was quickly spotted and then put right.

LOL true. Great pity - as I very much want the 16" option . . . and it now looks like getting it is going to be the usual hassle.

Obviously the people at Skoda UK have learned nothing at all, and precisely nothing has changed.

....the usual hassle... the people at Skoda UK have learned nothing at all....

Just take it nice and easy. A courteous email to Mark Fox or Shelly Lynch stating your case and asking for help. Isn't that just a nuisance, not really hassle? They've said 'Yes' so many times now that it would surely be awkward for them to start saying 'No' - and I don't recall seeing one confirmed positive rejection here.

Perhaps (another one of my 'perhapses'!) whoever did that phantom website edit was just being premature. Someone here (I haven't got time at the moment to search) who spoke to Mark Fox (I think) got the impression that it was just a matter of time before the option is offered.

It was me....

After a number of conversations with Mark regarding my change, he agreed with me regarding the apparent lack of knowledge of the standard telephone operator when it came down to spec'ing 16" wheels.

I asked him why the process had to be so difficult, he agreed that it shouldn't and intimated that the support phone operatives would be given additional training.

Whether this happened or not is another matter of course.

It was me....

So it was! Must be true, then.

As a matter of interest is there any reduction in price for downgrading to 16" wheels?

Not in my case no but I will save money if I ever wear out these useless Continental Premium Contact 2 tyres, as the 215/60 rubber is noticeably cheaper to buy than the 17" 225/50.

My itemised order shows 'Factory changing wheels to 16"........F.O.C' And, as far as I'm concerned, this is upgrading.

TP - are the Conti PC2 tyres really that bad?

TP - what's the problem with your Conti 2 tyres? I have only driven them about 3,000 miles but they seem fine to me - quiet with good roadholding and 'feel'. Is there something awful about to happen with my tyres at a certain mileage!!!!?

Have had the Conti's on 4 differing cars as factory fit since 2006 and I've not been that impressed particularly in the wet (or cold) as they wear down. Strangely though the W rated examples on our TSI Fabia are better at handling water than the H rated on the Yeti, although this might be down to the wider grooves found on the higher speed tyre. Certainly with just under 6mm of tread the Yeti is starting to get a bit skittish hitting standing water at national speeds. A Haldex equiped 4x4 can be more tricky in the wet, as they tend not to give any advanced warning of loss of traction until your actually aquaplaning, unlike a conventional 2wd.

Role on winter and back to Hankook W310's :giggle:

I thought perhaps Skoda would see this as a 'downgrade' as the larger wheel and tyre combination would probably cost them more, although nowhere near what they charge the end user I imagine!

As a matter of interest is there any reduction in price for downgrading to 16" wheels?

No. But to 'upgrade' to 17" from a model that has 16" the cost is £450.

So in theory one should have a £450 reduction then................some hope! :wonder:
