Fabia Stage 2 remap\turbo - many questions...

Featured Replies

Hello Briskoda, how are you all?

I am considering getting some further performance upgrades to my Fabia (currently have a stage 1 remap courtesy of p-torque). I am looking into my options, and have had a quote for a turbo\intercooler, and I'll also be upgrading the clutch.

I would like to do some track days, but also plan to be driving some long distances. Sadly not well versed with mechanics, so I'd appreciate it if someone could answer some of my annoying beginners questions:

  • Do I need to worry about any other components failing given the extra power that will be going through?
  • The engine has done 92,000 miles... is this going to be an issue?
  • Are there implications for driving at altitude, such as an alpine tour?
  • Would the gears get really short with that much acceleration and can I do anything about that?
  • What kind of price range should I be expecting for this level of improvement? (I was told I could expect up to 230bhp after the remap as a guide)
  • Are there better options that I haven't considered?

Thanks in advance!

If you are doing track days with that much power you will need to up rate the brakes quite a bit if you haven't alreday . 312mm front and 256mm rear as a minimum I'd say. Better still a set of Cupra R Brembos up front.

Standard suspension wont be the best on a track with that much power etiher!

As for price, say £3k minimum with hybrid turbo, uprated clutch & flywheel, FMIC, all fitted & mapped?

The gear ratios wont be physically shortened, but with that much power you'll soon get through them when accelerating hard!

Hopefully others will be along soon with more info soon...

If your planning on doing track days then I would recommend competition pads from the likes of Ferrodo or Pagid combined with super dot 4 fluid. 312's have great power but at the same time the 288's will be fine with competition pads.

I'd actually invest in driver training before changing the suspension. Yes the standard setup is far from ideal and decent dampers/spring combo will make a big difference but so will driver training. I always remember a wet track day were a fellow member who had 312's, kw v1's, jabba rarb, LSD, remap plus more would have to pull over to let my standard fabia except for a jabba rarb, 312's past.

Regarding high altitude. The torque limiter map is based on air pressure so no reason why the mapper can't adjust this too suit.

A decent set of tires will be a good idea too

Thanks for the info, much appreciated! I will probably have to do things in stages so as to spread the cost but nothing wrong with long-term projects :)

I guess my main concerns were about the mileage of the car and also the gearing... if I don't do anything there will I still be able to make the most of the extra power?

The gearing would be short. No question about it. I have a 197 and the first get 70km/h. The second get 110km/h. According to what you said, both cars have almost the same power ratting but mine revs much higher. The bottom line, with a 42km/h first, you would be spinning the tires like crazy and **** to second and the boost is gone. Research the vRS gearbox and if it would work. At least you have a sixth with that one! Moreover, I would recommend an engine overhaul. With these many miles on the clock I would. I am doing that with 70000km. the environment here is really aggressive! I am changing valves, piston rings, cranks shaft and camshaft bearings, timing chain, and all the gaskets. Mostly I am going to change more, but that is what is on my mind for now.

I have answered your questions for the last reply and this is what I would do upon what has been said by the others.

1) High Performance Engine Mounts.

2) High Performance Bushings all Around.

3) Maybe a bigger radiator if see the need for it. You are making twice as much power after all.

I think this is about it. Good luck with your project.

One last thing, make the brakes are your priority. This car does not stop especially if you have drums at the back.

Mine is running a hybrid & it's currently on 165,000 miles lol. Still runs sweet
