Power Figures on Octy vRS

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I was just wondering what sort of power figures you have seen on your cars before and after being jabba'd. ;) Mine seemed to be quite a bit down on the standard figure at around 150bhp and then after remap around 205bhp. torque seemed better with 180 ft ibs before and 213ft ibs after. I bought the Octy as it should be about 30 bhp more than a golf gti turbo but mine doesnt seem so. Ive changed the plugs now and im running optimax, but im not sure there is much improvement yet. i now have a blue flame cat back system coming to try and get power up more. ;)

if i recall didnt you post about this about a week ago i think jabba said it was the wrong spark plugs.. ? or was that someone else

How new is your octy? could be tight still ?

joel

150bhp is way short of the figure the 180bhp 1.8T normally gives on Jabba's rollers. As suggested in another thread, you really need to speak to Jabba.

Mine gave 178bhp on a very hot day....39 deg in the rr bay.

Yes i have changed the spark plugs and i have spoken to jabba about it. they said the spark plugs wouldnt make a difference to the remap and so it wouldnt need tweaking and that michael got as much power as he could. He also said on the day that there appeared to be nothing else wrong with the engine and no fault codes showed up. the cars done 49k miles so it cant still be tight. I just keep thinking in the back of my mind that im not getting the best out of it for money spent.

Are you happy with the way that it drives....figures withstanding?

Too late now but I think it was a bad idea to go ahead with the remap until the source of the problemwas found. If the problem was something like a dodgy fuel pump then running more power is even riskier.

Remaps should only be carried out on healthy cars. One that's 30bhp down clearly has a problem.

I mean dont get me wrong it appeared to go well before the remap and goes even better now. Theres plenty of torque from about 2500 and it starts to tail off about 6000rpm so its a lot of fun! fuel consumption is ok aswell i get about 27 round town and 35mpg on a run.

Must admit I am suprised that your standard figure was 150bhp....have you had the car from new and what reg is it?

The 205bhp after remap sounds like cable throttle car figures...as opposed to drive by wire.

Also your standard figure is also in line with a 1.8T SLX/Elegance.

Well i assume im reading the power graph right, the units on the left in Cv i think equates to Bhp? The car is an 02 model vRS with drive by wire, i did an hpi check when i bought it so it has correct engine etc.

Are you reading BHP at the wheels?

Collapsed boost pipe?

Are you reading BHP at the wheels?

that could be a possibility. What did Jabba say when it was RR at 150bhp?

Jabba's RR maps show engine power, wheel power, dissipate power and Rule (DIN 70020 Rule) power.

Jabba's RR maps show engine power, wheel power, dissipate power and Rule (DIN 70020 Rule) power.

so would 150 at the wheels be equal to 180bhp at the flywheel?

20% loss is quite a lot for a manual box. Over on vwvortex they reckon about 13%.

I have just looked at the power graph and it appears that the power is engine power as there is a separate figure for the wheel power, im just trying to scan it in and upload it so you can have a look ;)

4178.attach

Looking at that graph before was 177bhp after was 205bhp. Those figures are very realistic. Was that on Jabba's new dyno?

yes it was done last monday, so i think i was looking at wrong curve for std power, i was looking at the mauve thin line, i take it tis the sort of off yellow one?

After power is thick yellow, before is the thin light brown that has all the other lines on top so is hard to make out. The figures are shown as "engine power" and "engine power ref".

it would seem that there was nothing much wrong with the engine, in standard form, it just didnt give as much as expected after the remap, i was thinking on the lines of 220bhp. so i guess it could have been down to the plugs and 95 octane fuel that this wasnt achieved,

cheers anyway!

i'll have to see what difference the blue flame exhaust makes when i get it! im expecting it to be freer revving to the red line.

If your car is otherwise standard and you're running 95ron and a 3bar FPR then 205bhp is what I'd expect. It's on a par with what Revo and APR achieve.

Here is some light reading for those who think they understand dynanometers and their readings.

Forget the figures, they mean nothing anyway unless your doing side to side and back to back testing :)

Your happy?

I assume so.

re the rollers, yes I'd heard old ones were interia's, but new ones are funky (sorry not to technical on rollers ) Awesome GTi also have some VERY funky ones coming soon...can't wait to see there new pad, and that of Jabba and JBS
