JOM coilover life expectancy

Featured Replies

Once again after deciding that I do want coilovers, I have been searching the net for reviews, which have all been very good, apart from a few.

Not sure if this guy had bad luck, but here is the link.

http://www.e46zone.com/forum/topic/20026-jom-coilovers-warning/

He had the locating pin sheer off on his e46.

Has anyone on here had problems with the JOM coilovers?

*EDIT*

Can I also ask those, who have JOMs, how long you have had them fitted?

Many thanks, Mike

They come with a 2yr warranty mate so can't be bad!! I have a set on my mk2 vrs really happy so is the mrs so alls good

2 year warranty isnt bad at all for something that cheap! But still, if that had happened at a higher speed, warranty means pretty much nout lol.

Yet another good review :p

How long have you had them fitted? Cant be long with a mk2?

Cheers mate (Y)

Year And a half, no issues :) covered about 15000 miles

Thanks Wilsy :)

Seems like there is no point spending twice as much, plus a bit more for KWs or other bigger named brands.

If it happened at high speed and resulted in a crash and it was the suspension at fault you could in worst case scenario take them to court over it. If it was their part that failed its their fault.

That's true, but hope it wouldn't happen! Lol

Think I may get a set next month. Is there anything else you guys would recommend to change whilst doing the swap?

I know it's easier to but new top mounts, but anything else? Thanks :)

Obvious one would be drop links but when I do mine I'm going to do ball joints aswell

As in replace OEM droplinks? As many people have used mondeo drop links as they are shorter, but as I'm not going super low, mondeo ones for sure, won't be needed right?

Must say thanks for the help already, and sorry for "newbie" questions :)

Some kits come with them the drop links but other than that the mondeo ones would be ok. As far as I know it dosent matter how low you go you need to replace the drop links because the mount on the damper will have moved and the OEM one will be too long. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Yeah I know the FK AK kits come with drop links. But have heard better reviews from the JOM kits.

Just want to start getting a list of parts together so I can get it all in one hit ;)

U need shorter drop links ,I would get new topmouts and bearings tbh mate been on the mk2 3 weeks

**EDIT**

Shorter Drop Links

Top mounts

Could anyone confirm if the above is whats needed?

Yep, you want top mount AND bearing as they come as 2 seperate parts!

Yeah have seen that on the web.

Time to start saving :)

Who else has had these for a long time?

Thanks :)

Im looking at getting coilovers prob the jom kit what else will i need im only looking at lowering it around 30-35mm will i still need shorter drop links and when you guys say new top mounts and bearings where do i get these ?

U will need shorter drop links top mounts an bearings from tps or skoda

Why will i need shorter drop links :S and cant i use standard top mounts and bearings ?

I've run JOM's since last August with Awesome GTI droplinks with no problems. Venom Motorsport told me they've had less warranty issues with JOM than they have with FK. When you go low the anti-roll bar will rub the drivers side driveshaft which is why shorter droplinks are needed. I didn't bother with new top mounts.

Im on uprated shocks and springs around 50mm atm and the drop links dont rub so i dont see how they would rub if im only gunna drop it around 25-35mm

Because it differs from brand to brand

Ok so if i ring tps or skoda and say i need shorter drop links for my coilovers on my fabia will they no the size i need ?
