top mount bearings

  • 1 year later...

Got APEX on ATM, and try are awful! Looking at some JOMS. Can you drop them 35mm? I replaced my top mounts and bearings 2 months ago when I put the Apex on, so I'm guessing I don't need to replace them again?! And do I HAVE TO GET shorter drop links for a 35mm drop? Sorry to bring up an old post! Also what's the ride like?

The drop links for a mondeo mk1 are about £8 each so I'd just fit them to be on the safe side. Your top mounts will be fine. Mines probably lowered about 50mm,it can be abit bouncy because it's solid but not as bad as some make out, I do about 3000 miles a month in mine and can recommend them so they are okay imo. For the money I've no complaints

I changed my JOM's after 18 months for a set of AP's

Just fitted my joms yesterday, didn't need new top mounts but defo needed the shorter drop links, people moan about joms but iv had them on all my cars and never had a problem I think the ride is good, maybe the more expensive coilovers have a more smooth ride but never go as low, and for APs went in my mates skoda and they were bouncy as hell!

I changed my joms after 7 month.

i bought his JOM's ^^^^^^^^ :)

to be honest, for what i paid i cant complain, but they are quite bumpy, will be looking to invest in some AP's at some point next year. But i needed something to get rid of that god awful standard ride height

it does make it much more fun to drive though, can throw it around corners now :)

I was toying on get some Joms i had some on my mk3 golf and were terrible so i was thinking of saving for some aps..... will i notice the difference between joms and aps??

Thanks Wilsy :)

Seems like there is no point spending twice as much, plus a bit more for KWs or other bigger named brands.

had JOM on a mk4 Golf, brother has KW on his Octavia and I've got H&R on my Ibiza. the JOMs cost way less, but that's about the only way they compare favourably to the 'big name brands'

So in ride quality you couldnt find alot different offer than price

not what I said. JOM were harsh and bouncy and rattly, but cheap

I had a set fitted to my mk2 octy,i put the standard suspension back on after 16 months and the joms were pretty knackered.
They were wound to the bottom on the front and the adjustable cup removed from the rear so they took quite a battering, the coating comes off the springs and eventually the springs sag causing the coils to bash together, the dampers were still usable though.
I still managed to sell them for £120 :giggle:
