About to Order... Superb Estate Elegance Greenline

Featured Replies

So as you all now know, I am about to trade in my 9-5 estate for a New Superb Estate and I can't wait!

Wife has a Fabia DSG and we are delighted with the quality etc etc after purchasing new 12mths ago...

So here is my dilemmas on the options I am considering and a few questions I would like to ask of you all.

My car will definitely be a New Superb Estate, Greenline, Elegance, with:

1. Colour - I am thinking of Candy White, I do like white and it is cheaper than metallic - I will keep car for 4years - any problems?

I am also liking the ivory leather with dark carpets - similar to current car and works well - I note the comments about denim, but i will wipe pawprints etc and generally I wear suits.

2. Ventilated front seats - are they worth it? Do they actually reduce the stickiness in summer? or on longer journeys?

3. Heated nozzles - seems a no brainer at £40ish and the weather we get now.

4. Auto dimming rear view mirror - have it in my 9-5 and so want it again...is it too dark to work with sunset glass?

5. Sunset glass - with 2 young children I want to reduce the sun on them - and I think the blind option offers extra to fiddle with?! But I have never had tinted cars before - so not sure about Candy White with sunset glass - opinions please?

5b. An alternative would be the sonniboyhttp://sonniboy-auto...0gvo3tu7rj03gd3 any experiences?

6. Floor mats - I seee from the forums people not recommending the factory mats - but what is the alternatives?

7. Dealer supplied spare wheel, as not part of greenline and a must I thiink.

8. Mudguards - are these dealer fit? Beneficial?

9. Extension to a 4year warranty - is it worth it? I feel as I know I will only have car for 4yrs that it is peace of mind...

10. MDI - I know nothing about this - but I hope to use an iPod for music source. However can I take music from my iTunes via the SD card? If so not sure what benefit the MDI offers?

11. I read the rSap forums, but think I will be ok with the new build foor the bluetooth, streaming etc... I am intrigued by the SMS, email etc.. but that's for another day of learning!

12. Sun visors - I rea\d somewhere on here there is soon to be an option for the front visors to be upgraded to allow for both side winndow and front cover (like my current 9-5) - does anyone knnow about this? I would like this option.

13. Any experiences with Skoda service packages - value for money? I am likely to do 20k+/year and keep for 4years. Can you buy the service pack from Dealer A and actually use of Dealer B?

Finally I have enquired for quotations with those dealers I have found recommended on these boards... and the one I purchased the Fabia through. But I have also noted that "carsandfinance.com" have very good prices - any experiences with them?

Thanks, I shall await the usual forthright and excellent advice.

Hi Fella,

I can answer some but not all of your questions.

So here goes:-

1. Paint Colour, white is the new silver and would be a good choice. If you get scratches you will hardly notice and as this is a solid paint colour easy to sort out.

2. Ventilated front seats - IMHO I have these as part of the L&K upgrade pack and they are nice but be aware you can have ventilation one of two ways, either on your back, or on your bum. You cannot have both at the same time. Deffinantly does help with sticky long journeys but is not a 100% solution. Would i pay extra for it, probably not.

3. Heated Nozzles, yes agree with you 100%, i added them and the auto dimming mirror (incidentally, without the auto dimming mirror, the external mirros would not dim as well), so good choice here.

4. Sunset Glass - Go for this option, i had a citroen C4 picasso (7 seater) and that had the blinds in it, they are fiddly and although they never broke it is a real PITA when the kids cannot clip them in place and your on the M1 doing 70Mph. Sunset glass cancels this out, although it does not seem as dark as say Ford Mondeos.

9. Extension to the warranty - Big time get this as it is with SKODA UK and npot some third party company that has a 100 page book with 98 pages of exclusions and 2 pages that apply. The warranty stays with the vehicle as well, it cost me £600 to add 2 years or 100K miles to my L&K. Well worth it. Be aware Skoda insist that it is serviced only at Skoda authorised dealers. (bit like the unlimited mileage you get on a BMW, the car has to be serviced always at a BMW approved service centre.)

10. MDI, nice idea but a bit pricey for what it is, yes you can hook up your ipod or iphone and play it remotely through your stereo steering controls, but TBH, i would dump it on the SD Card, you can have up to 32GB of MP3 or WMA files on there and it wont cost you an extra £160. Also, you can stream the music via bluetooth direct to the unit anyway so why would you bother?

13. Skoda service packages, on speaking to the dealer because i do 20K plus a year it really isnt worth it. Again, depends on your mileage.

Hope i have been of some help.

there are a lot more experienced and cleverier people on here than me but i am now on my 3rd Skoda and can say without a shadow, they are the cheapest VW you can buy!!!! with the most toys!!!!!

Hello and welcome, here are my thoughts on your options:

1. Colour - I have a Candy White Estate, looks great. Yes it gets dirty but not to a major extent. Mine has just gone 4 weeks without a wash and it wasn't that bad to be honest.

2. Ventilated front seats - haven't got them, Danny57 does on his L&K (i think), he'll be able to give a better opinion.

3. Heated nozzles - yes good choice

4. Auto dimming rear view mirror - yes very good, I don't have but miss the one I had on an Audi

5. Sunset glass - I'm in same situation with 2 kids. Sunset is great and just the right level of tint. Does it look good with Candy White, you decide:

IMG-20111117-00108.jpg

6. Floor mats - got dealer supplied mats (are they the same as factory ones??), they are OK and do the job.

10. MDI - I didn't spec this as I was getting the Bolero unit which takes SD cards. The Columbus has the HDD and also has the option of playing via BT, I think in this case the MDI would be redundant.

12. Sun visors - I think this may be only available on the L&K, but could be wrong?

Hope this helps and good luck with the purchase. At the end of the day it's your decision on the options.

So here is my dilemmas on the options I am considering and a few questions I would like to ask of you all.

So an update thus far: (in Red)

Defo going for the Candy White - and sunset, I like the pictures. Also thinking I will go with ivory and dark carpets.

2. Ventilated front seats - are they worth it? Do they actually reduce the stickiness in summer? or on longer journeys? Still undecided - hoping Danny57 or others will post for more feedback - interesting only works one area at a time.

3. Heated nozzles - seems a no brainer at £40ish and the weather we get now. Yep

4. Auto dimming rear view mirror - have it in my 9-5 and so want it again...is it too dark to work with sunset glass? Yep

5. Sunset glass - with 2 young children I want to reduce the sun on them - and I think the blind option offers extra to fiddle with?! But I have never had tinted cars before - so not sure about Candy White with sunset glass - opinions please? Yep as #1 above

5b. An alternative would be the sonniboyhttp://sonniboy-auto...0gvo3tu7rj03gd3 any experiences? Anyone got these?

6. Floor mats - I seee from the forums people not recommending the factory mats - but what is the alternatives? Going dealer supply - possibly as a pack with mudguards and boot liner - seems like excellent value!?

7. Dealer supplied spare wheel, as not part of greenline and a must I thiink. Yep

8. Mudguards - are these dealer fit? Beneficial? As #6 above

9. Extension to a 4year warranty - is it worth it? I feel as I know I will only have car for 4yrs that it is peace of mind... probably

10. MDI - I know nothing about this - but I hope to use an iPod for music source. However can I take music from my iTunes via the SD card? If so not sure what benefit the MDI offers? anyone know how to get iTunes onto the SD and working oin the Columbus?

11. I read the rSap forums, but think I will be ok with the new build foor the bluetooth, streaming etc... I am intrigued by the SMS, email etc.. but that's for another day of learning! ???

12. Sun visors - I rea\d somewhere on here there is soon to be an option for the front visors to be upgraded to allow for both side winndow and front cover (like my current 9-5) - does anyone knnow about this? I would like this option. Not seeming an available option?

13. Any experiences with Skoda service packages - value for money? I am likely to do 20k+/year and keep for 4years. Can you buy the service pack from Dealer A and actually use of Dealer B? ???

Slowly getting narrowed down, just need a good deal(er) now and away I go!

Can help with 10; you convert on iTunes into mp3 (there is an option) then drag and drop onto sd card. It does duplicate the song on iTunes but you can then delete one of them. It is a little hassle but then you don't have to connect up your phone every time.

I haven't got mdi but for £160 would buy it as gives you the option of both. I use sd most times but if I have purchased new songs I use aux until transferred across.

I'll try and fill in some blanks, some are personal opinions though :giggle:

1. Not sure what the residuals will be on a white car, the same as a metallic, possibly not.

2. Don't have so can't comment

3. No brainer as you correctly assume!

4. as 2.

5. A godsend and less fiddly than blinds, also excellent for security.

6. Get the Skoda rubber ones, they're easy to wash (pressure washer).

7. Yep, a tyre repair kit is no good if you get a blow-out

8. They'll help keep the muck ff of the car, it's a big car to keep clean!

9. Possibly

10. MDI for me was a must, it'll charge the phone, you can change tracks through the steering wheel etc... and you don't have to pick it up. The police will nick you for just having the phone in your hand nowadays.

11. Streaming only I think, reading emails and texts I THINK is a thing of the past.

12. Don't know

13. Skoda services start from £200.00 and you can shop around for the best deal (My last service was quoted between £200 and £300 by different VW and Skoda dealers), if you're on variable servicing and do 20K per year that's one service per year (services are between 19 and 20K depending on how you drive the car etc...)

Not sure how you'll get on with a good dealer, when I bought my car at least half of my enquiries (I went all over the country as I wanted the best deal) went unanswered. Other users living down your way will be able to point you in the right direction.

Good luck!

Any more views on ventilated seats, I'm probably thinking not worth the money at the moment?

Apparantly there is a deal on the finance at the moment, with 3x services, which should save some money in the long run...

Struggling to get some replies.

Probably narrowed down to 3 dealers now and just waiting on carsandfinance.com to reply - they seemed best, but probably pre-reg? Anyone know?

Thanks

With Cars and Finance the car is new to order but comes to you as second owner. They also keep the V5 for 6 months so you cannot buy a car cheap from them then sell it straight away for a profit

Edited by Inoffski

If you own the car how can they keep the V5? The fianance is there but you would be the registered keeper.

My combi is white and it is the easiest colour to maintain. I bought a set of mudflaps and fitted them in half an hour. Great value and they keep the bud off the lower areas. The auto dim mirrors are a blessing in night traffic. I never realised how effective they could be. I was constantly jiggling my driver's mirror on the old Audi to prevent the glare now I just smile. The sunset glass is a must here in Australia. If you have a Mac then make some iTunes folders (rock, Jazz, classics etc) and drag them onto an SD card. You can then download them onto the hard drive or just leave the card in the slot. I have Ivory leather with black carpets. Mats came with the car and are fitted with large press studs in the front but just sit in the rear. They do the job. My car came with a 5 year unlimited Km warranty so no idea what it is worth. You don't mention the electric tailgate, they are very useful. Good luck.

I think I am there with final decisions, only the ventilated seat choice remains...

And now slightly worried reading of uncomfortable seats?

And the columbus failing....

Hope i get a good one!

And now slightly worried reading of uncomfortable seats?

It's a very personal thing, as someone stated in a previous post. The only way to be sure is to find a dealer prepared for you to take an Elegance for an hour or more test drive, with time to get the seat and wheel in the best position. 24 hours test drives aren't unheard of, but normally via leasing companies.

Edited by artichoke273

It took me quite a few attempts to find a comfortable position for the seat and part of that is due to how adjustable it is in my opinion but i did find a very comfortable seat position.

One thing I have found with MDI is that you cannot use the AUX socket until the MDI is disconnected. As I use MDI socket to also charge the phone it can be a nuisance if I want to connect my DAB radio through the AUX socket to listem to sport etc .

Minor annoyance.

Also, remeber MDI doesn't come with the cable to connect your iPhone and that can be quite expensive for what it is - get the dealer to chuck it in to sweeten the deal.
