vRS Milltek Catback Exhaust -Fitted (video and pics)

Featured Replies

Hi All,

The Furby has now had the Milltek treatment. Very impressive! The exhaust looks really nice and the larger tailpipes fill the bumper cut-out much better. Looks a tad more aggressive without looking overly modified or boy-racer.

The sound it makes is amazing. I was never really sold on the near total lack of audible entertainment from the stock exhaust and the Milltek one is a definite upgrade! There is a fantastic growl on start-up and when driving around town at low speed. At higher speeds when cruising its completely silent which is a major bonus, especially on the motorway. No drone whatsoever. SWMBO in particular is very pleased as she didn't want the car sounding too noisy (took abit of persuasion to get her approval for this in the first place haha! :giggle: ) Under heavy acceleration there is a nice growly-whooshy noise (technical term) but not much louder than stock -those wanting a really shouty exhaust will be disappointed.

The exhaust noise inside the car is definitely quieter than I was expecting but from outside its sounds like abit of a beast now.

The Milltek system retains the original front silencer/resonator so I suppose its not strictly speaking a 'cat-back' (cheeky of Milltek perhaps as a cost saving measure? especially as other companies replace then front silencer in their systems...) but I guess this means the exhaust is that bit quieter/refined. (The full TBE replaces the front box with a straight through pipe)

Had a slight fault with the tailpipe unit when fitted but this was sorted by Milltek under warranty and replacement pipes sent out.

Exhaust was fitted by TSR performance who I can highly recommend.

Below should be a quick snap and video link, apologies for the poor mobile phone quality but I'll get some more pics and a better vid done when I get time.

Will shoot some much better footage with a proper camcorder this weekend if I get the chance and (weather permitting!) :sun:

I'm sure it would be great, just the huge cost put me off and the recommendation for a stage 2 remap. I may well upgrade to this in the future tho

Is that it popping on the gear changes? If so, sounds awesome!

Mine really pops n farts on gear changes especially between 3k and 5k

DO IT!!!!!!!

Is the cat back suitable for stage 2 tuning or would that need a full TBE?

Full tbe or a decat/sport cat downpipe

A CAT Back is not needed for any state of tune and will net you negligible power gains.

I've experienced this myself with my own cars and many seen it on many other cars. You might get 1-2 hp difference between before/after runs but then that could easily be down to strapping slightly looser on the dyno or just general variation between runs.

If you want to go stage 2 you need the downpipe to be upgraded. This is where the power gains are found. The standard CAT is not only restrictive to the exhaust gases, it also makes the exhaust gas temperatures rise so tuners have to limit stage 1 cars on safety basis. Having a freer flowing cat means that the exhaust gas temps are lower so they can run a more aggressive map without having temps get to high. Thats where the gains are found with stage 2.

Some guys believe the Cat back section of the exhaust sometimes help the engine rev more freely, its not something i ever noticed tbh and ive done it on pretty much all my last cars. I just noticed the noise.

You'll find some tuners say you need a TBE for stage 2, when you question them they soon back down. Coincidently most of them sell exhausts.....I know plenty of guys running 350hp + on TFSI cars with no cat back exhaust.

As above catback fine for stock or stage 1 map, if you are going to stage 2 then need the downpipe/sportcat. Tempted to get a stage 1 done next and then in future if I want to go stage 2 buy the milltek bits (downpipe etc) to upgrade the system into a full turbo back jobbie.

The Catback alone is unlikely to give any significant power gains, what you are buying is the sweet looking tailpipes and the nice growly exhaust note. Having said that both SWMBO and I definitely feel that the car seems a tad quicker/more responsive -but I'm sure thats just psychological!

I defintely noticed that fuel economy was down by about 5mpg the first couple of weeks I had it -wonder why that might be?! haha :giggle:

Will post up some more pics and some better quality vids on here tomorrow, watch this space....

So if I order the turbo - mid section exhaust should be fine for stage 2??

Pitbull you got any vids of the TBE?

Yea stage 2 requires downpipe only. I haven't got any vids ATM I'll try get some tomorrow.

lovely tailpipes, same design as I had on the Octy when I had it.

Wish Milltek did a system for the Monte Carlo which as we all know dosn't have any tailpipes as standard!

Great sound, great looking tail pipes
